#13 is definitely great. Of course, nobody that I know, besides myself, owns their music. wink

That's fairly conclusive proof that halloween is completely stupid.

I grew up thinking Halloween was for kids. When I found out adults did it too, I was horrified. That feeling has not changed.

Ah, 13 is AMAZING! I remember seeing a group costume once (they actually won at the party I was at) that was Robert Palmer and girls from the "Addicted to Love" video. Wish I'd gotten pictures of that one. Then maybe five years ago most of my apartment complex did a Mario theme costume, and won pretty much every costume contest they entered- I'll definitely look and see if I can find pictures of that one, as it was also pretty much amazing.

The first time I encountered this concept, and it may have
been the origin of it, was in a Doonesbury strip in 1974(?)
maybe '75, with the characters going to a party all dressed in
dress slacks, white shirts, rolled up sleeves, loosened ties,
pencils behind the ears, as "the best and the brightest".

I have looked at all the pictures, but could not find the "clever" part that was promised to me in the headline.

"Ridiculous" was spot on, though. wink

I used to like Halloween as a child, but I stopped trick or treating when I was 11. Then, at about 7PM on Halloween night when I was 13, my father asked if I wanted to go out one last time. Something about the way he asked made me throw together a quick costume, and out we went, just for a block or two. At the time, it puzzled me that he wanted to go.

He has passed away, and now I have my own children. We dress them in silly costumes, and together we walk through the neighbourhood where I was brought up, admiring the decorations and the costumes of the other kids, watching other people's fireworks, enjoying the camaraderie of family and community, and we end with spooky stories and mouthfuls of sweets, way past their normal bedtime. I now understand why my father wanted to go out one last time. Halloween is for grown ups, too.

Of course it is stupid. Many things that are fun are, if you really think about it. The idea of getting on a computer and spending hours flying imaginary planes is, well, stupid.

I used to enjoy Halloween. I'm getting too old for it now but young people should have fun with it.

I get doing it with kids. I don't get a bunch of adults dressing up to go get drunk at someone's house or something.

Its about finding a reason to be sociable with people and having fun. Its normally not just dressing up and getting drunk. There are normally games being played etc.

What do you do? Just sit at home? Do you dress up for giving out candy? or just give it out in normal clothes?

Until my kids were old enough to go I did nothing. Now we walk them around to places while they're dressed up. That's it.

I own plenty of their music. And I saw them in concert last year. In 3-D even, heh.

I just saw their 3D concert in Miami a couple weeks ago. Great show.

How could you possibly seem them in concert in 2D? That's called a film.

It was an observation on the costumes relevance to the theme of halloween, specifically that there isn't any.

It's an excuse to go out drinking and partying, just like St. Patrick's day.
