Incredibly misleading title. Not terrorism related, it was a bar fight. Way to go FOX.
Scully: Victim died of multiple stab wounds. Mulder: *throws her a file* Ever heard of the knife alien?

If it's a man who thwarted a French train attack but the stabbing took place in CA (or anywhere but France), my first thought is robbery or mugging.

A guy involved in a high profile terrorist attack broadcast around the country, and he's stabbed, and that news is plastered all over the nation again with no clarifying details until you visit the link, and you think "robbery"? That's... not how they get their ratings.

Media loves being economical with the truth on their headlines, and FOX news seems to be particularly skilled at that. Someone should publish a book called the '50 Shades of Lies': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lie

Particularly? I don't think so, unless you have favorites. They're all bad.

But some are more skilled than others in their attention seeking craft. After all no one gets to be N1 without developing an uncanny ability in getting their audiences attention above all the others.

Fox News consistently beats the other cable news networks in the tv ratings for two reasons, 1. They are the only right wing news network out there while all of the others are left wing. So hence you have the left wing news outlets competing with each other while Fox News has no ideological competitor. 2. They have the better looking female anchors and talking heads.

First thing I thought was someone wanting to test the tough guy from the news. I doubt there was even that much thought involved though, just a group of drunk thugs trying to save face after the woman they were harassing got rescued.

I wouldn't call them right, I'd call them more centrist. That said, there is a new upstart called NewMax that is very Conservative.

True, that helps, but it would have meant nothing if they weren't good at giving their audience what they like and creating headlines that gets people's attention even if they aren't the target audience. If they did not have these exceptionally honed skills another news outlet would take advantage of their weakness. Not having a direct competitor for the conservative audience is not just the cause of their success but also the result. 2. http://www.wonderslist.com/top-10-hottest-fox-news-girls/

"Alcohol is a factor"
That and testosterone. Even our would be hero likely made some bad judgment call to get into a fight with six guys leaving a bar.
Groups of young men leaving a bar are the same everywhere- they think they've got their mojo working with liquid courage, they're frustrated because they haven't hooked up, the bigger the group, the more invincible they feel. If you don't read the situation correctly, you may get messed up, even if your intentions are good, you're probably doing something to challenge male dominance in a way that leaves them feeling they need to save face. This is a like a primitive battle for mates in the wild.
I've been going to going to bars and nightclubs my entire adult life, I've never been jumped or been in a situation like that, and I've never had groups of males take my girl away. It's not an account of me being extraordinarily tough, but I think I outwit the things happening around me.

Hmmm... The headline (currently) reads as: Spencer Stone, hero in French train attack, reportedly in stable condition after stabbing My first thought was, "I really hope he's in stable condition and will recover." My second thought was, "I wonder what happened?". I can't really see that as misleading. Especially when the sub-title at the bottom of the embedded video says: Now Playing
French train attack hero stabbed in Sacramento
So, this thread has me curious. How did CNN.com write their headline? Train hero Spencer Stone stabbed in Sacramento MSNBC.com? French train attack hero Spencer Stone stabbed NBCNEWS.com? Spencer Stone, French Train Attack Hero, Stabbed in Sacramento ABCNEWS.go.com? French Train Hero Spencer Stone Stabbed in California CBSnews.com? Hero of France train attack stabbed multiple times I'll readily admit to having a mostly positive view towards foxnews.com... but I'm not really seeing a grounds for the above complaints against them in this case.

Yeah, they did nothing different from anyone else in this case.
Now if they'd managed to sneak a slam against the current administration in there, then yes, you could say it was unique to them. Overall, though, while the headline didn't mention CA while some of the others did, I never thought it was terrorism either.
Largely because I don't associate knives with terrorism based on historical precedent.
Shot? Maybe. Blown up? Definitely. Stabbed? Not really.
