I have what would be considered a minimum spec system for running DCS. I would get 20-40 (40 looking at the sky) in free flight (F-86) with frequent dips into the teens using low presets. With 1.5 and low presets I get 120. Not a typo. 120 frames. Using medium I get 80. Fantastic! It's finally useable and I can SEE!

What are your PC specs? Performance is essentially the same for me. It still drops in the areas it always did, water splashes, 30+ parked aircraft ect. Highs are the same as they always were (80-120), but the lows are just as low.

I have a feeling this only helped people with low end PCs. I still think the engine is choking sadly.

I'm using an amd r9290, 16gb ram, overclocked 4 core Radeon cpu 3.8mhz (basically pretty damn beefy), and with the old engine I would get 30fps max, dropping to 7 fps. Basically it was unplayable,

After 1.5 it ranges from 120fps to minimum of 30 fps. To say I like 1.5 is an understatement. All options set to high/ultra, with a few minor concessions on grass, and preload distance.

Edit: turns out my PC spec was wrong. As follows:
AMD FX 9590 Eight-Cored Processor 5.0GHz Turbo 1
Corsair Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler 1
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste 1
ASUS Crosshair V Formula Motherboard 1
16GB Corsair/Crucial PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 Memory (2 x 8GB sticks) 1
Chillblast AMD Radeon R9 290 4096GB Graphics Card 1
120GB Samsung 840 EVO Solid State Drive 1
2000GB 7200RPM Hard Disk - 6Gbps 1
24x SATA DVD+/-RW Drive 1
Corsair RM 850 Modular 850W GOLD Certified PSU 1

ASUS AMD Athelon II X2 220 2.8G, 64 bit Win 10, 8 GB ram, GTX 650 Ti 2MB. Like I said, decidedly minimum.

AMD was problematic on the old engine, so that is good to hear. Wonder how it performs on higher end Nvidia GPUs. Just want to know if we'll be stuck with terrible performance at air bases and during naval battles for many more years to come. I am hoping we can at least brute force it with faster GPUs, but I have a feeling some more tweaking needs to take place.

Just curious, for those who see frame drops, is that with or without Mirrors enabled in the cockpit. That's always been a big killer for me (still seems to hit FPS pretty hard, but not unflyable)

Performance boost vs mirrors on my single GTX780 depends on the module. In Mi-8, which was always a resource hog previously, I can finally turn the mirrors on and not care about sub-60 fps drops even with a couple of other Hips around (the dreaded startup tutorial mission!).

On the other hand, MiG-21 offers the same mediocre performance with other units nearby (cold start and take-off instant missions are good benchmarks here) and even turnig the mirrors off doesn't help all that much.

Ummm, no. I have an i7-2600@4.6GHz / 3GB GTX580 overclocked / Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 / 16GB RAM rig, and while it isn't in any way cutting edge anymore, it's no slouch either. I've got the framerate capped at 60, and I'm seeing 60FPS without any visible fluctuations / stutters at all, even when I'm in the middle of a huge battle. So yeah, it _was_ an enormous improvement for folks with faster rigs too.

I could run DCS v1.2.16 at 30FPS capped without problems, but 60 just wasn't doable. Now it is. And that's nothing short of formidable if you ask me wink

580 is pretty slow these days. Can you place a number of ships (5-6) and a number of units to launch anti ship missiles at them? See if the ships self defense cannons impacting the water brings your frame rates down. All it takes is one stream of cannons to impact the water for frame rates to drop severely on my end. Best way to get the ships to do that is to fire enough anti ship missiles so some get close enough to fire back.

Very impressed with this the Open Beta.

However, downloading training missions doesn't seem to work correctly. When I hit the Install button, training missions download and end up in the right mods/aircraft/"module"/EN/training folder, but don't appear in the Training Menu.

It looks like all of the Training directories have a lessons.lua file except for the ones I downloaded (FC3 and UH-1H).

Water impacts have no, ehm, impact on my frame rate, although firing a lot of smoking projectiles in one go - and I mean a LOT - does slow things down somewhat. But other than that, all pretty much 100% A-OK here.

All of which only goes to show that there're no 2 PCs that perform alike, and more regrettably, some HW/SW/OS combos just don't work with all software. Have you tried to trace the problem to its roots? The culprit may well be something you never thought about.

I'll have to view it some more. What drivers are you using? I recall updating my drivers last month, so I should be on the latest version. Very odd that I seem to be suffering slow downs on my end.

Performance in MP is amazing. 50+ FPS in the Huey or A-10C cockpit with clouds, through the rain, with dozens of objects, other players, missiles, absolutely incredible. Performance easily doubled for me.

And I never thought how beautiful the old Black Sea map could become with EDGE.

Not to mention the ~500 AI units I activated that had almost no impact on performance for the clients and only a frame drop of about 10-15fps in the MiG-21Bis for me as a host. I was down to 45-60fps and some rare drops below 40fps flying CAS in the MiG-21Bis in one of the most detailed areas of the map (east of Kutaisi) with ~500 active AI units. mind=blown

Compared to 1.2 where fps sometimes dropped to below 20fps in the Huey drop mission with less AI units active this is an unbelievable improvement.

I installed it easily and it seems to be working great. However, on the outside views I am getting some slight stuttering. Any ideas?

Go to full screen after the game loads by hitting L-Alt + Enter. That gives you true fullscreen and should stop the stutters.

Thank you. That seemed to do the trick. Although I did have the full screen checked in the options screen. Is this a bug?
