I have so far never seen a Gotha in the "normal" Game... they only seem to appear in the "Terror over England"-Campaigns, or if you fly them yourself.
What I kept asking myself was:
Were the Gotha's exclusively used for bombing Missions on England? If so, that would explain, why one doesn't see them elsewhere...

By far the majority of raids were on English targets, although I have read of raids by lone Gothas on Paris in early 1918.

I think Rick posted about running into a Gotha recently.
I've never seen any when not in a Home Defence campaign.

When flying Gothas several targets are capable of loading that don't involve Paris or England.
Never had any scout escorts when flying Gothas.

I remembered wrong about Rick's encounter, it was when his squad was spending time in England and had an intercept mission.

Well, if you know what field the Gotha is flying from, and the date there may be a chance to see one if you are stationed between them and england. I'm supposing that they may be active at your mission generation unless the AI logic looks to see if u are on home defence before including a Gotha mission gen. Only the devs could answer this.

Yeah, I've been hoping to see them in a normal campaign, but have only encountered them when 56 squadron was stationed in England in July 1917, I believe. Of course, there were 24 of them on that mission...

The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...
