...that Microsoft have blocked disk based Securom/Safedisk due to security risk reasons.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2015/08/18/microsoft-drm-windows-10/1

Take note that Microsoft gives the doublespeak and claims it only affects a few games when in reality it affects a lot more than a few.

basically renders most legacy titles useless, which may be the real reason.

I would not recommend windows 10 as a system for anyone in its present form. Stick with 8, or its better predecessor 7 for now.
Microsoft's a great company, but there are some individuals working there, who would be better off at.....apple winkngrin

MS
Flaming Cliffs has been useless for me since Vista. Securerom too old to update to patch out or something like that.
Too bad game makers use that POS and didn't patch it out.
I've got some Win98 that aren't playable too. Times move on.

What bothers me is FS9 won't run MS dosen't support their own titles.

But FS9 is over 12 years old and there was a sequel released. Given that their Operating Systems have a shelf life for support we can't expect them to support their old games forever too. I don't think they're being unreasonable personally.

The question is why it's no longer supported. It may be because they stopped supporting the DirectPlay API with Windows 8.1 (they still ship it with legacy files (but the wrong ones)); maybe this is no longer possible with Win 10. Maybe someone will write a wrapper for DirectPlay one day.

Hi all,

I was able to get FS9 running on Win 10 by using the, No CD exe patch. While it is working extremely well, I can not say the same thing for FSX. Running FSX under Win 10 is a nightmare. It takes almost a half hour to load each screen. And whenever I am able to start a flight, as soon as ATC says something, the flight stops and FSX freezes. I backed up my original CFG file and allowed FSX to make another one, hoping that it would solve my problem but no joy.

Anyone know of a fix that will get FSX to load properly? I have searched the Internet and have not found a fix. Many people say, "just reinstall FSX," but with the amount of aircraft and scenery features I have, it would take months to get everything reinstalled. And than there is no guarantee that it will run as it should. Prior to the Win 10 install, FSX was loading and running without a flaw. I guess I shouldn't have trusted Microsoft, because the message that kept coming up on my desktop screen prior to upgrading to Win 10, said, "Our test shows all your files are compatible with the upgrade."

I now have FSX running just as well under Win 10, as I did under Win 7 Pro. I just needed to reinstall FSX, which I didn't want to do, because of all my add-ons. But it is now operating and that is what counts.

I think you need the uiautomation.dll fix. PM if you need a link. BTW, it is because the above issues you mentioned among others, I just moved on from FS9 directly to Prepar3D 3.1. P3D is well worth the switch. Though, I still keep FS9 on a legacy Windows 7 Laptop.

FS9 used Securom and that is why it doesn't work. You can make Securom work again with this command. I know it works on Win7/8 but not sure about Win10.

To start it;

sc config secdrv start= demand
sc start secdrv

To stop it;

sc stop secdrv
sc config secdrv start= disabled

What gets my goat is that Microsoft blacklists Securom due to security concerns but not flash, and they actually install flash using WU for IE.

Hmm, does anyone know how to get "Rome – Total war" (#1) or the add-on "Alexander" to work on Win10?
Tried a while but no luck, it will not start.

Flash, for all its flaws (and there are so many that it's beyond remedy IMO), well, at least you can't say about Flash that it is an effin' rootkit. Which is exactly what Securom installs. I'm fully with MS here, Securom is intolerable.

Flash is highly objectionable, sure, but at least you can uninstall it (and I would heartily recommend doing to so pretty much everybody).

I emailed Securom once and accused them of installing a rootkit and they replied that it is not a rootkit. But they were lying because it uses rootkit methods to get low level access so is a rootkit. Still, not as bad as that Starforce was, which I despised. Still think it ruined two of my DVD drives firmware.
