edit: I do remember the red and black dlc packs being free on Vegas, but mainly as an apology.

Considering I played that and every R6 game on the PC, I wouldn't know. Back then, they were called expansion packs. First game I had with that was possible Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, although I have a vague memory of an MPS sim that had one.
Eagle Watch for the first R6 was the first one. Rogue Spear had Urban Ops.
Raven Shield had two, although Iron Wrath had that odd meltdown where they released it for free instead of charging and then dumped it. As a result, you can get Raven Shield and Athena Sword on Steam and elsewhere still, but to get Iron Wrath you need that original installation file from Fileplanet and a lot of patience to get it to work.

Ghost Recon had two expansion packs.

The idea of DLC that didn't come on a disk came much later.

They certainly give the impression of randomized placement, patrol routes, etc., which is good; blowing your way into a particular room in one run might put you in a nest of tangoes behind cover whereas the next time you might find nothing but dust particles. There may be a few "tricks" involved with this, I suspect, such as bad guys that spawn in response to certain player actions but, as I said, the effect -- of randomized defenses and therefore very replayable levels -- is impressive.

This is all so sad... multiplayer only with only a single pathetic nod at SP with Lone Wolf Terrorist Hunt. I've played, and still own, every game in the R6/Rogue Spear series. I literally have all of them up, every add-on pack including Black Arrow, Iron Wrath, even Covert Ops:Essentials, which many didn't like but I loved because it was unique, up to when this series went "arcade" with Vegas and the ones that followed.

MP can be fun, occasionally. But I've got to have strong SP too, like the very early games. It's all gone to rot now. A great series is no longer great.

Is anyone else in the two-day Tech Test currently running? It's a new build, obviously. I persist in my high opinion of this CQB shooter, even if we have to accept that it is only symbolically related to "classic" R6. I like it more than the Vegas games, which I now see as transitional. I would have loved a singleplayer campaign but I think this is the best small-team tac-FPS for coop and PvP since Ghost Recon Online (now Phantoms). Unlike with GRFS or even Splinter Cell Blacklist (to a much lesser extent) I do not think this game, when released next month, will deserve any wrath directed at Ubi for shameless corporate exploitation and consolitis.

Hi Bill. And aren't they working on a reboot Ghost Recon - called Wildlands? In a good way? Maybe. Possibly. Slim but real hope??

Reaching waaaay back, I think I remember during a tense classic GR large MP session, Plainsman all of sudden yelling in a voice filled with disbelief, shock, horror: HEY! THEY'RE TRYING TO KILL ME!!

So this is released tomorrow, December 1. Is it going to be worth $60 USD from the jump? I'm interested in the coop aspect and playing with the bots (single player in a sense).

I've been having some fun with CS:GO that I picked up during the Autumn sale for $7.49. It's actually pretty good even playing with the bots. If I have a 1/2 hour to spare I can play quite a few rounds. I had not played any CS for years.

Speaking for myself its an easy buy and well worth the money. I know I will get my monies worth out of the game over the next coming months. The PvP is really fun and leads to some very intense CQB action. The whole Attacker vs Defender thing gets pretty crazy as you wait wait wait and then all hell breaks loose and the match is over in a matter of seconds! The Coop (Terrorist Hunt) mode is back and the AI is very punishing, my biggest gripe with it currently is that the AI bots seems to spawn infinitely. This is something that has been noted by Ubisoft so hopefully it will change to the more classic R6 TH mode where there were a set limit of bots on the map. There are also something like 10-12 SP missions that you do solo to kinda introduce you to the games mechanics and various "Operators" and their respective abilities.

I just posted this in the Screenshot/Video section as well if you want to get a sense of the PvP aspect of the game.

Reviews so far have been pretty positive.

http://www.gamesradar.com/rainbow-six-siege-review/ - 3.5 of 5 Stars
http://www.gamereactor.eu/reviews/367003/Rainbow+Six+Siege/ - 8/10
http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/136032...trategy-shooter - 4/5 Stars

Neither IGN or Gamespot have their full review up yet but both seem to enjoy the title despite some of its shortcomings.

Thanks for your reply. I'll probably buy it. It seems like the AI bots should have a limited spawn in Terrorist Hunt. Otherwise how would the match ever end for coop players? PvP should be fun. Is there a way to get your friends into a PvP match without all the slots being grabbed by public gamers?

In the Coop you have OBJ that you have to complete (ie disarm a set amount of bombs) once those are completed the game ends. You can create a Squad of 5 players/friends and jump into matches. I am unsure if you can create private matches though. It would be a helluva good time if you and 9 of your friends could play against each other! smile

Ubi posted some of their changes they've made due to the public beta. I think the shield hip-firing and bomber changes in particular are good ones.

I purchased and currently pre-loading the standard version now. I'll see what the season pass offers first before I commit to that.
