Used to fly falcon 4, eech, many of the others. My pc died, was an xp with a gtx295 and 4gb mem <lol>.
Built a new machine with core i5-6600k, 16g, gtx 970ssc and ssd. Now running windows 10.
I cannot for the life of me get eeah or eech working. Both come up with no 3d video card found and asks to install dx6.
I installed eeah, gives me the message about no video card found. Cant run it to expand the graphics.
I installed eech, gives me the same message about no video card found.
Even tried the community mods 1.15 install and the same message.
Finally wound up installing EE2, but I swear I hate that version of eech, it sucks. I would rather be running eech with community mods.
Any ideas on this? would really love to get this working.
Thanks

Viper , I'm just taking a shot in the dark here ,as I don't recall seeing this type of issue myself or with anyone else in EECH.

First off ; Do you have directX installed? any version ? I'm assuming you do.
Just in case you want to install direct X6 ; it can co-exist with your current higher Direct X version and won't cause any conflict.

Second ; Try running EECH in compatibility mode set to Windows NT 4.0
I'm running Windows 7 (64bit) ,and have only had to do this for one other game for it to function.(but not EECH)

I'm assuming your error has something to do with EECH's compatibility with Windows10 , since your other games are obviously working.

Well, I hope you can find some solution. Like I say ,I'm just throwing an option out there to try.

Good luck , Powerstomp

Hi Powerstomp
Thanks for the help. Yes, I have dx installed, dxdiag shows version 12. I found a d/l for dx version 6 but when I installed it, ran the dxdiag that was included with it and it says dx 6.02.
The exact message I get when I try to first time run EEAH or launch EECH it says "Unable to find a 3D graphics card. Please ensure you have the latest drivers (which I do) for your 3d card and have installed DirectX 6.
It may be a Windows 10 thing but not sure? I have tried the compatibility mode but don't see Windows NT. The lowest I can go is 95. I tried 95, 98, XP etc....they all give the same message that it can't find a video card.
I even tried to run the "DEBUG" utility found in the EECH folder and it gave the same message.
Perhaps that I have this installed in c:\Program Files (x86)\Razorworks instead of C:\Razorworks? I am also running this on an SSD vs an HDD that I had it installed on.
I am keeping trying until I get it working.
PS Enemy Engaged 2 did work fine, but I already uninstalled it, that game is the pits compared to EECH w/community mods.
Thanks

after DEBUG.EXE was launched log file appears in the game folder (DEBUG.LOG), you can place it's text here and maybe I will find something useful. It can be Win10 or latest drivers issue, but I can't give any advice unfortunately.

In my latest attempt, I removed EEAH just to see if EECH would launch. Here are the results. Looks like it accepts all the resolutions...but still at the bottom says that not gfx card is found. I have a ASUS Z170-A.
I looked through the manual on it and it shows that it has an onboard video. I looked at the spec page and here is the spec on the onboard:
Graphic
Integrated Graphics Processor- Intel® HD Graphics support
Multi-VGA output support : HDMI/DVI-D/RGB/DisplayPort ports
- Supports HDMI with max. resolution 4096 x 2160 @ 24 Hz / 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz
- Supports DVI-D with max. resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
- Supports RGB with max. resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
- Supports DisplayPort with max. resolution 4096 x 2304 @ 60 Hz
Maximum shared memory of 512 MB
Supports Intel® InTru™ 3D, Quick Sync Video, Clear Video HD Technology, Insider™
Supports up to 3 displays simultaneously
DP 1.2 Multi-Stream Transport compliant, supports DP 1.2 monitor daisy chain up to 3 displays

However I have a EVGA GTX970 SSC installed in slot 1 PCIE 16x. In the bios I can set it to PCIE for the video but it keeps switching back to Auto for some reason. What's funny is the onboard video does not show up in the Windows hardware manager like it is turned off or the EVGA card is primary.

Here is the output of the DEBUG:

Also, to note....I tried the onboard video ports and my monitor shows no signal, so I believe they are indeed turned off, they don't show in the windows hardware manager either.

I have both integrated and PCIE video units active, but IntelHD can be disabled in BIOS in my motherboard. not sure it will solve anything for you - game works fine for me now. when extra screens available they appears at the Screen Resolution window like indexed square (it's gray when disabled).
maybe later someone else will confirm or deny game compatibly with Windows 10.

I'm going to play with the bios and see if I can somehow force to disable IntelHD. It's an ASUS Z170-A. By default my only choices are AUTO, IGFX PEG and PCIE. I try to choose PCIE and it keeps reverting back to AUTO. There are 2 other options, DMI/OPI Configuration, which allows DMI Max Link Speed. It is set to Auto.
PEG port configuration allows you to configure the PEG port settings. PCIEx16_1 (which my card is on) is set to Auto. There is Gen1, Gen2, Gen3 options.
I believe the IntelHD is built into the CoreI5-E6600, but I haven't found a way to disable it completely. Yet....
I'm still looking.
Maybe somebody else can chime in about running EECH on Win 10x64.
Thanks for the help, any other suggestions are welcome. Man I miss flying this sim.
Tony

Lock for an option about shared memory. In some motherboards, to turn off the integrated graphics, your need to put the shared memory value to zero/disabled.

Do you have Open GL on it?

I couldn't get EECH to work on my new PC until I put Open GL on it.

There was an Open GL patch on the EECH download page of SimHQ.

I have tried looking at several places in the bios to turn off that integrated video but can't find it. From what I read, the ASUS bios just disables it when it detects a PCIE video card plugged in. The integrated video does not show up in the hardware list. So, I think that rules that one out.
OpenGL....you might be onto something there. I did some looking and don't see that I have OpenGL installed. I am not sure if it is a part of the NVidia driver or not but I didn't see it in the nvidia control panel/help/system info/components. I am looking for that OpenGL patch now and will update in a little while. I am not sure if Win10 comes with OGL support or not?

I installed OpenGL Extensions Viewer 4.3.6 and it is reporting that I have OpenGL 4.4 in the summary. There is a red flag on OpenGL 4.5, it indicates 90% compatible, says unsupported shading language version 4.50. So I think it is defaulting to OGL 4.4.
I'm still looking......and trying ...

It does mention this in the manual:

Graphics
If you are experiencing problems with Comanche Hokum graphics then please ensure that
you have the latest drivers for your 3D graphics card.
Comanche Hokum terminates with "Unable to find a 3D graphics card ..."
Comanche Hokum requires that your PC has a 3D graphics card. If the program terminates
with the message "Unable to find a 3D graphics card. Please ensure you have the latest
drivers for your 3D card and have installed DirectX 7" then please ensure that you have a
3D graphics card with the appropriate drivers.

Nvidia released 358.50 for win 10, giving that a try.....was on 355.98 last week.....

Video drivers didn't help. I tried both my disc version of EEAH/CH and the GOG download version, both give the same message. Just so weird that EE 2 will work without a hitch (and I hate that version of EECH. Ugh. Still trying to figure this one out.

Guys I have it working!!!!!!
I did everything today. I pulled my GTX970 out, used the onboard video and it still failed. I also tried a new profile on my pc and it failed.
I am now installing EECH .....but EEAH installed and ran the 1st time graphics update!
Here is what fixed it:
I was looking at some old sims that I had and came across European Air War. I had noticed when I tried to install EAW, when it installed DX6, the only option it would give me was enable 3d acceleration, but the option to reinstall or remove dx6 was greyed out. On that CD, under the directx folder, is a program dx6core.exe. I thought, what the hell, not going to hurt anything, I ran it and it asked me if I wanted to install dx6. I did so. I finished up my EAW install and thought I would give EEAH another shot.
Sure enough....this time, the screen flickered, then I see the 1st time graphics update rolling.
Man am I happy now. I FINALLY get my EECH back.
If anybody else runs into this on windows 10, just let me know, I have that directx file if anybody needs it. dx6core.exe
Thanks for listening and helping out....finally got it!
Tony

Congratulations on making it work smile Interesting fix, too.

I wonder if installing any older DX version would also have worked? Maybe not older than v6 though, that might be pushing it a bit, but possibly available from nearly any game CD that someone might have lying around? I remember always taking DX9c as the 'ultimate' fix-everything version. It does seem like there's a whole load of unknowns in Win10 though.

I know on this machine (win7-amd64) I installed the MS DX 'end user runtime June 2010 version' (but I can't remember what game it was for, not EECH I think) but I remember the notes and on the download page (still available from MS) it said it contained all previous DX versions (or compatibility for them?). Not listed as being for Win10 but then neither is dx6core.exe!

Just a thought that you might have found an almost-official way of getting round the problem that might even work for other games as well.
