I know that the whole idea of a yoke is to be a two hand flight control, so I don't really know how to describe what I want. Bear with me please.

I play Elite: Dangerous and I want to do a HOTAS setup with the traditional throttle and side-stick position. I'm using a Logitech stick now but since I'm going to build my throttle control I started thinking about the side-stick as well.

I want the pitch control to work like the slide on some flight sim yokes. I think it would have a more natural feel and the constantly cramming the stick forward and back is wracking my wrist. So I have a lot of iseas about how to set up the mechanics but if such a thing already exists I wouldn't mind stealing some ideas.

Thnx,
Cmdr. Bromius

Ther is Quickshot qs150. It is vintage but looks like that is what you want. You need to usb mod it.

In fact what you want is like Cirrus SR22 "mono-yoke", tilts for aileron control and slides for elevator.

And this exist COTS for computer flight simulation (just don't looks affordable). smile

If you want DIY one, the internal mechanism will be the same of conventional yoke.

Samples.

I thought the same thing when I came across this in my search. But if you look close, the shaft that would slide in and out on a yoke is actually stationary and the pitch comes from a normal pivot action.

Then there's the quality, suction cup feet are a bad sign... But yes, this thing 'looks' like it should be what I want even if it doesn't actually do what I want.

Sort of related... when I finish my left hand Warthog grips (well under way), modified versions of the grips (alternate inboard halves) will be used to make my 6DoF spaceyoke. Here's a video of my kinematic mockup:

That is it exactly. Thank you. Amazing how the one can work out a concept all on one's own from 1st principles, only to find that it has been realized and put into service already. Actually I'm just glad that someone out there thought this was a good enough idea to build and I'm not being foolish for wanting it.

I won't be paying 2 grand for it but I'm pretty confident I can build up a respectable re-interpretation.

Since the principles of mechanism are the same, it would probably be possible to take a Saitek or CH yoke handle off the central shaft and replace it with handle of your own devising. You might even be able to hacksaw and re-use the left grip. That would be a much less expensive option, even bought new.

looks very modernishy-phoney-windows eighty-tabletty like

Asus P8P67 Pro Rev. 3.0 // i5 2500k @4.3 GHz with Noctua NH-D14 // nvidia gtx 780 // 8 GB DDR3 1600 //Win7 home 64 bit //450 GB VelociRaptor //Recon3D Champion

Keep in mind that the Cirrus grip is designed to be used left-handed. smile

Probable this is configurable, the real SR-22 yoke are fitted in both sides of cockpit.

If you look at the grips, they're designed as a left or right. It's a very nice looking cockpit!
