A return to my efforts to have game access to Battlefield 2142.

I recognize this product edition was not a hit. EA and Origin have canceled Main Server access for login and registration. Yet there are Single Player "work arounds" to gain access to a limited number of scenarios.

1) I have obliterated my hard disk install and ensure deletion by going to delete on the Control Panel.

2) I have reinstalled the program, Battlefield 2142 deluxe, and its patches: 150 and 151.

3) Apart from MODs, I installed the after market Single Player 1.1 and 1.2 whose origins are relics of the past.

The program will launch through its opening menu. The login screen is a problem. As it is impossible to create a new identity or retrieve a past identity because the link to the Main Server is non-functional, I "cleverly" select SinglePlayer as an identity followed by a random password.

After providing basic information, a launch is set. After a few minutes, the link times-out. Sometime, I can select Okay and playoff line. Sometimes and frequently, the link will time out and refuse my identity as not being on record, sending me back to the general login page.

Such are my frustrations (again) for this day in August. Apart from throwing stones at the game, or myself, I simply ask whether the pool of SimHQ knowledge has any simple operational steps for rendering an admittedly poor product, functional in an offline-single player format.

Thank you.

The answer to a 'maiden's prayers' has been found.

"Battlefield SinglePlayer Forum > BF2/2142 Mod Development > 2142_SP". This site was via a Google Search. The patches remain necessary. The Single Player MODs are beneficial especially since the provide many after market Scenarios and Campaigns.

The game is dead to EA and Origin. Yet the forum provides a Documents & Settings update that greatly assists in circumventing the 'death server' link that only brings frustration.

After finding sources to bring BF2142 to 'life' and be killed from Verdun to Minsk, the new future of Battlefield is found.

In mid-November EA will ship "Battlefield 'Star Wars' which contains more creatures than BF2142. BF2142 will effectively become extraterrestrial. A well timed product release as the new Lucas film arrives in December and Disney World will most certainly its plans for a "Star Wars" theme park addition by then.

I know it wasnt a big hit, partly maybe because it basically was only a reskin of BF2, but I sure loved 2142!
BF2 is and always will be my favorite, but 2142 was special.
Such atmosphere, you could tell that Dice had put alot of though and depth into the game even though it never surfaced. The loading briefings, the soundtrack, just amazing.

Too bad Dice have lost all that "heart and soul" now.

oh yeah... fighting across a map to get to an APC... launching a pod at the Titan... missing... third try lucky... camping the vents with mines and jumping off when the core goes critical...
