hi all - I finally have some time to try and get a bit more serious with my flying and campaigns in this wonderful sim one of my favorite things when I was floating about was the pleasure I got on the very rare occasion when I actually hit an enemy - and the lovely little puffs of smoke it created lately as I hit enemies more proficiently I am not seeing any of those little tell tale puffs I had previously?? I am pretty sure I am landing good lead as they go down - but no flamers and not even the little hit puffs could this be a graphics setting (all is set to 5 on my new rig with top graphics card and all other effects look brilliant and beautiful ??? but this is stumping me??) any ideas or advice much appreciated ... I will continue to fire away ... maybe I just haven't hit the right spot yet??? and again to all involved - such great work to date on this game - thanks,! Ron

Exactly so Hellshade. It was reduced. You can see smoke and puffs etc. if hitting vital parts, engine and fueltank etc., but not with hitting canvas or Wood like it was earlier. I almost wonder if there shouldn't be an option (Winder, please don't shoot me) that reduces or eliminates the damage sounds you hear from other planes when you hit them with bullets except for perhaps the occasional explosion or of course if you collided with them. I doubt very seriously you would hear fabric rip or even pilots scream at 25 or 50 yards away over the roar of your own engine. Saying this, I totally get why those sounds ARE in the sim. Most folks would go crazy without some kind of feedback letting them know if they are effective or not. It would give the feeling of the old "flying tank" syndrome where it felt like you were pumping 1,000 rounds into a plane with no effect.

So once again I call for the "blue & red " small inserted screen that list the hits from both you and the other guy. This should be brought back as a training tool within QC, so you can judge where your bullets are going. It was very helpfull ( when we had it in OFF ) to become better at deflection shooting.

Doesn't "Shift D" turn those text warnings on and off?

Shift D did not work.
Some where in Pol's work shop it must be filed away, and would to find it for practice within QC.
How can we revive it for our use?

That "hit list" has not been seen since OFF phase 3 days by this pilot.
Maybe a tracer mod will help you?

OK, Like where do I find the "tracer mod" Try here http://www.mediafire.com/download/njm4f244kl5m6fb/Tracer_Colors.zipPut the colour of your choice in the MODS folder, enable via JSGME

Thanks maxpeck, but with my neophyte knowledge of the inter workings of computers it was a NO GO.
I spent over two hours to make it work--- but no dice.
So back to the " hit list ", some where in one of POL's bag of tricks he could find it and assign it to one of the many functions that we do not use ( ie: lower landing gear ).
To me , with all that goes with old age ( 79 in April ) the frustration of not being able to know where my bullets are going has me going to other games and playing WOFF less and less.
Yesterday I had an injured plane at 100 yards to 50 yards ,straight, level, and slow. Having up graded to strongest bullets I shot 500 plus rounds with the F6 gun sight and then Kentucky windage, and lastly F4 with some results at the very end.
Not very realistic! Could the tracers become part of the selections in WOFF?
Thanks again for you advice.

What did it say your accuracy % was at the end of the mission? Do you have Gun Accuracy set to Normal or Less Accurate? I personally find shooting at a target from directly behind it to be the least effective way to bring them down. If possible, I get off to the side, apply a little rudder and try to shoot the pilot or the engine. If you have OldHats Damage Model, the wings become a viable target as well at different angles.

About 35 out of 350 rounds at mostly 50 to 100 yds. Guns at Normal and Strongest for this test in QC.
F4 is a "cheat" in my book, and about 10 degrees to the left, but with "kentucky windage" that worked and the plane went down.
Any pilot from WW1 to now who had a crew chief that sent him up with such a missaligned gun sight would get fired and be digging a slit trench for the rest of the war!
Pilots working with the crew chief to sight the guns would be a great addition to WOFF, and very honest as to the relationship between a pilot and the ground crew that he trust with is life.
