by HareBrained Schemes is up here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/webeharebrained/battletech

About to back it at one of the starter levels.

Watched a bit of the stream about it yesterday, sounds really good.

You run a Merc unit in a single player campaign. Additional levels will unlock PvP. I am really interested in a well done single player campaign though. Having co-op would be amazing, but didn't here anything about that.

Using the Unity 5 engine, will be in full 3d, not locked isometric view, and there will be melee, so DFA!!!

smile

Hoping this one turns out well, but I have pretty good faith considering how well they did Shadowrun Returns.

Hey! I loved Mech Commander and it was isometric... well, at least the first one was.

After the fail of MWO and MWT, I'm a bit skeptical about new BattleTech stuff. I've backed both previous projects at Founder level but luckily I was able to back out and get my money after playing the Beta and realizing it wasn't the type of BattleTech I wanted to play.

Met the base goal pretty quickly! The counter keeps going up. That's awesome.

at 1,000,000....SP campaign, not just vs AI skirmish
at 1,850,000....dynamic campaign
at 2,500,000....PvP

New Stackpole stories sounds pretty cool.

I might kick myself later, but I did the $25. If it's getting close to the MP or at least dynamic campaign goal by the end I might go up a level.
I'd really like at least the dynamic campaign.

As much as I loved battletech in my youth the people putting together BT games have pretty much botched everything since MW2 and MW Mercenaries. So, ill pass on funding it and check it out when it is released.

-Mechwarrior Tactics tricked me into funding and turned out horrible bullcrap...

-But shadowrun returns was a really good game!

-MWO had great potential but turned out a mediocre and boring game...

-But I love Battletech in general!

Such conflicting feelings towards this :O

Wait on it. About 95% of games sound good on paper and end up being mediocre at best. If it turns out this is in the 5% then go buy the kickass game and enjoy.

Or blow money on a "maybe", I don't know how much you make a year or if it matters biggrin

Well THIS was a nice way to start our day. Since our last update, youve unlocked two more funding goals for STAGE 2!
Whoa!
Whoa!

Were really excited about our next funding goal:

$1,350,000 - Voice Acting: We'll record a cast of talented voice actors to act as your advisers, provide mission briefings, and record battlefield emotes. Well also add voice acting to the animatics for important moments in the story.

And while were on the subject, did you know that one of the voice actors in MechCommander 2 works at Harebrained Schemes?
#HeyDagger! #BATTLETECH
#HeyDagger! #BATTLETECH

Maybe if enough people tweet at her, #HeyDagger! #BATTLETECH, we can get her to reprise her role during the live streaming Twitch Q&A session that you unlocked by completing Backer Missions. smile

Be sure to SHARE this with your friends on Facebook and Twitter. Jordan, Mitch, and Mike love talking to our Backers and were thinking of more ways to make our live streams fun. If you have ideas, leave a message for us on the MAIN Comments page. You can get our attention by shouting HEY HBS!

The Global BattleTech Community is doing an amazing job on those Backer Missions. You BLEW through Jordans first WEEKLY BONUS BACKER MISSION!

It's Throwback Thursday!

Jordan loved sharing one of his favorite BattleTech memories and loved hearing your BattleTech memories even more. He was so excited, he went through his old photographs and found some pictures from the GenCon 1988 wedding of Hanse Davion and Melissa Steiner.

Here's the invitation.

And here's the cake!
I have a bad feeling about this.

Although the first Bonus Mission is complete, we still want to hear your BattleTech memories. Folks are tweeting out all sorts of stuff, including their own videos! Remember to use #BTmemory and #BATTLETECH.

Slowed down quite a bit, as is to be expected. It got through the voice acting funding goal though, that's good.
I hope it can make it to the 1.85mil mark, but I'm having doubts.

They hit the 1.5M goal now, plenty of time to hit the 1.85mil dynamic campaign goal, at least I hope so.

Remember - this is by Jordan Weisman.

He helped create BattleTech in the first place.
He created Crimson Skies (another awesome game).
He created Shadowrun Returns (which was awesome)

I think this will hopefully be first true BattleTech game.

I keep hoping that they will add a co-op stretch goal. Would love to have my SimHQ buddies as my low paid mercs, fighting over what broken down mech I deem them worthy of.

Woohoo, Battletech Kickstarter hit the 1.8M goal for the expanded mercenary campaign:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/web..._project_update

Quote:
The STAGE 3 EXPANDED MERCENARY CAMPAIGN puts you in full control of your life as a Mercenary. The campaign becomes open-ended, allowing you to charter JumpShip transport for your mercenary outfit when needed - travel to various hot-zones across the Periphery and Inner Sphere. Youll be able to choose your contracts and alliances, with both the Great Houses and other subfactions within the Inner Sphere.

Over time, the missions you choose to accept and the objectives competed in those missions will determine your reputation as a mercenary. Your reputation will affect the contracts and contract terms you may be offered in the future. But be wary: each Great House - and in some cases, each House representative - can have their own agendas, sometimes leading you into bad deals or deadly betrayals.

To support this open-ended Mercenary career, STAGE 3 adds a wide variety of side-contracts in addition to the story campaign, as well as a procedural contract-generation system to ensure that you always have fresh contracts available, wherever your Mercenary career may take you.

Sounds great! thumbsup

So tempted to fund this and at the $275 level.... I've been a closet BattleTech fan for ages! I remember playing MW2 and the following games but I really, really had fun with MechCommander 1....

Since HBS recently delivered not only decent (Shadowrun Returns) but in fact excellent games (SR: Dragonfall and SR: Hong Kong) I'm pretty sure they will manage create an excellent BT game, too.

Yeah based on the Shadowrun games, I'm confident they will make a good single player Battletech game, although I suspect it will be simplified compared to the tabletop, but as a fan of the Crescent Hawk games, I'd be ok with that as long as the story and turn based strategy gameplay are good like they are in the Shadowrun games.

I'm actually hoping they don't hit the $2.5M goal which would add multiplayer, I don't want work on the MP features to take away from work on the singleplayer campaigns and story.

They did mention that after the MP level is hit that they would eventually add co-op. Not for the campaign, but for the MP arena vs bots.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they'll make a game that stays pretty true to the tabletop.

I'd be cool with that too.

I'm just setting my expectations lower based on how they translated the tabletop shadowrun to the shadowrun games they did, which feel simplified in the turn based combat to me, I still have fun playing them and they have a well written story and atmosphere.

I'm backing this at the $25 level right now, like I did Shadowrun Returns which turned out great, might bump up to the $50 level to get access to the betas though, not decided yet.

I'll get it when it comes out but no Kickstart/early funding games for me. There's too many good games out there right now to invest in pre-vaporware.

I do suspect it's going to be good though... the Shadowrun Return games are very good

While I love the Battletech series and have all the MechWarrior/2/Mercenaries and expansions I held off on MWO, I did try it right at the star but it just didn't feel right so passed on it.

I'll keep an eye on this one but don't feel like putting money into it before I see exactly what it is.

With 1 week to go, I have a few questions regarding Kickstarter:

1. If I fund this at a lower level, say $50, can I increase my funding later on? Will I get the rewards of the new level? Or am I locked at whatever level I am at once the KS ends?

2. If I fund this at a lower level, say $50, can I decrease my funding later on?

3. When will my money be taken out of my account?

4. Is it possible to withdraw funding later on?

Really excited about this one, but I was also excited about the Robotech tabletop miniatures game and it looks like I dodged the bullet with that one. I've also bought Founder's packs in MWO, MWT, and Guild Wars 2 but luckily I was able to withdraw my funding and get my money back when the game was shaping in a way I didn't want to play in (I withdrew before open beta).

I wouldn't count on anything like that.
They might not even take more funding after this, who knows. Once the time limit runs out, your pledge is withdrawn by the means you choose when you make it.
I hope they just take the money and put out the game and don't pull a Star Citizen on us. They might put out other features later though.
Some of us got lucky getting a refund on SC, but that wasn't something they had to do.

40 hrs to go and it's at $2.4M, I'm guessing it will hit the $2.5M goal for multiplayer at this pace.

You can't change your pledge after the kickstarter ends. The money is taken out of your account once the kickstarter campaign is successfully completed.

Together with the Paypal funds we're at 2.490.000$, and still 35 hours to go. I'm pretty sure we'll hit 2.5 Mio and get PvP on Solaris.

MP is a GO!
I really think these guys are in touch with the frustrations of participants in projects like this and have their heads on straight.
Got this email:

Kickstarter

OBJECTIVE COMPLETE: Stage 4 - PVP Multiplayer Unlocked!

Posted by Harebrained Schemes LLC

Wow! In just over a month, you have managed to fund ALL of the features and content in our BATTLETECH Kickstarter Campaign.

Congratulations on this tremendous achievement!

You did it!

So what happens now that the project has passed $2,500,000? Will we add additional funding goals and make the game even larger in scope?

No.

As we said in our first Live Stream Twitch Q&A session, after Stage 4 is unlocked, additional funding will go towards polishing the features and content weve already committed to. After that, any additional funds will go toward funding a Post-Launch Live Team that will continue developing additional features and content. First among them will be Cooperative Multiplayer, which will allow you and a friend to face-off against AI opponents.

So, in the time remaining, please help get the word out to new people who havent backed the project yet! They still have the chance to get the game for only $25 and the whole community will benefit from their early faith in the project.

Heres what you can do to help:

1. Like, Share, and Retweet this video recapping our Kickstarter campaign for new folks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BZFVvIalAI&feature=youtu.be

2. Take and share our Which Mech Are You? quiz and post the results on Facebook and Twitter!
https://4screens.net/e/561e91608ff884010057d3b4

3. Join our Thunderclap for a one-time social media post telling your friends and followers that we're in the Final Hours. BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT SOON - THE THUNDERCLAP TRIGGERS AT 12pm PST!!!
https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/33694-battletech-ks-final-hours

Thanks again for your support and dont forget to join us LIVE at 6pm GMT / 11am Pacific time for our last Q&A session of the campaign!

This is the single best thing I can read in a kickstarter.

Glad they made full funding. Not too concerned about skirmish, like others here, coop would have been nice.

I am also pleased about the statement about not adding to and increasing the scope with further funding.

Keep the scope tight, any additional funding means more polished product and quicker release date.

Looking forward to playing this one.

Anyone know if I can back the project twice?

Basically, I'd like to secure 2 copies, one for myself and one to gift later.

You could always have a 2nd login I guess?

Seems like I read on their site they'll continue developing the game once their goals are finished. I'm just glad they're doing what they say and not shooting the moon and getting crazy with it. They also at least try to give a release date, May 2017, so we have some kind of idea what to expect. I'm sure things can happen, but at least they try...that's not bad.

Yeah if you look at the Digital Addons options for backers it looks like you can add a second digital copy for $25.

I presume that is for the final copy of the game. I was hoping for a second copy at the $50 backer level so it can have access to the beta as well.

So while coop is not being added originally it did sound like an expansion at some point. I am cool with that and love that they are using extra money for polish. So at this point I'm ready to get in the back of the car and repeat 'are we done yet' over and over.

That's nice, they did a good job with that in MWO.
I wish we could get some look at gameplay, surely they have a mock up?
I'd REALLY like for them to put in a strung-together replay of the match to sit back and watch.

Yeah, having access to the cool MWO models is going to be awesome! I love BattleTech but some mech designs are just too '80s for today's crowd.

Reviving an old thread...

Harebrained put out the first video of Battletech Pre-Alpha gameplay for backers:

Quote:
Before you watch the video - please be aware that theres bugs and missing features a-plenty here! Were showing off where were at with combat gameplay here, warts and all. Some specific combat features that are part of the game but didnt make it into this demo include: stability/falling, MechWarrior special abilities, reverse movement, better damage reporting, and melee. (We all really wanted to show off some of the awesome melee attacks the teams been working on, but its still just not quite ready for primetime.) Note that this also doesnt showcase any elements of the games campaign or story - this is an example of a single mission that you might embark on during your Mercenary career.
Anyway - with that said, here is your first look at BATTLETECH. Jordan and Mitch and I are incredibly proud of the work the team has already done on this project, and look forward to showing you more of the game later this year - and if you happen to be in Indianapolis this weekend for GenCon, stop by Booth 2329 to say hi and try the demo out for yourself!

Yeah that already looks 10X better that that stillbirth scam game from IGP "Mechwarrior Tactics" did after 2 years of development and selling "Founder" packages for it, thankfully I didn't back it because they closed up shop and provided nothing for the money.

I backed this one due to the devs track record, and am really glad I did.

I'm excited before watching the video just seeing the word "mission" in there. MWO would be so awesome with a co-op campaign, storyline and solid missions.

Looks like it's being built with controllers in mind. thumbsup

Wow! Well, probably wouldn't be all that well received.
Interesting they have the game handbooks on there. I wonder if they'll be useful along with the game? Are they taking stats straight from the tabletop game?

Jumped on the $25 level a little while ago. The video looks great, can't wait to get my hands on it!

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck.”

They dropped a little trailer for the game. No gameplay, but I like the tone and music.
I *really* hope they include a way to watch a round replay in real time with a flying camera or automatic cuts.

Very interested myself considering they have some sort of a way to play actual missions (unlike a certain BattleTech arena shooter). Hoping this continues on the track it's on.

The whole game will be mission based. It's a story-based game, not a Coop FPS smile

There will be PvP MP too. It's TBS, something we've been waiting for since the early 90's.
Still hoping for co-op, seems like they may have said it could come later on afte release, but I may have dreamed that part.

Yeah, but the game concept is mission based single player story game.

MP is only an extra addition.

MWO is from the bottom up a multiplayer-only game.

I hope there is a map and mission editor for this too!!

Dev Q&A, apparently a regular thing.

44:35 they talk about customization and staying with the spirit of the mech instead of totally changing it's character weapon-wise.
Sounds good to me!

Interesting... they shipped it on July 25, so it took it's sweet time to get here. But nevermind, it's here. I was originally going for the next tier, the one with the flight jacket, but stupid "priorities" got in the way. Really like the new Atlas head logo though!

No, the freebirth scum in the area won't have the cranial capacity to fathom the banner. It goes up in the gaming room. biggrin
