Been playing early access and public stress test server for last couple of weekends (should be open beta very soon) and find it enjoyable. Not a simulation, but tactical principles do have good effect in game (shoot and move to another position, maneuver for flank shots; ammo selection). Some things are a bit wonky such as targets disappearing when they should be visible (or at least I think so, I guess the algorithms think otherwise). Not a simulation as I've already mentioned, but IMHO, it captures the nature of armored combat. There is a single player (cooperative) mode with three different levels of difficulty. As with any online game, coop brings different types of players but run and gun players don't typically last very long in a round.
A very nice variety of vehicles available (what other game features a MBT-70?).

Advanced beta (the founder pack qualifies you for it) starts today. Open beta begins in one week. Supposedly no more account scrubbing after start of advanced beta.

I'm downloading it now... is it worth it to buy any Founder's pack?

Watching a few YT vids, it seems like it has a PvE element which I like but I don't think I'm a fan of the HP system. It also looks like the tanks are in tip-top shape until their HP goes to zero then it just dies.

I'm coming from War Thunder wherein a tank can take a few hits and still keep going, although with very much reduced efficiency. Tanks can also be one-shot-killed from ammo explosions or fuel explosions or fuel fires or just enough fragmentation damage to kill all (or enough) of the crew.

They lose functionality as they get beaten up, and shot placement/ammo used is very important. The best way I can describe it is that it's not a sim, but it's still technical and tactical, so I wouldn't call it arcade by any means either. What little PvE I've played was in a group, was very good. They still had the enemy popping up in awkward spawn locations was our biggest complaint, but I suspect that will be addressed. The first level was basically an intro mission, the second much longer with various objectives. It's looking good, so I sprung for the $15 package. Really enjoyed the early access period before.
Check out their armor and ammo official videos, that better describes what's going on than just watching game play. That's what convinced me to give it a go to begin with after I had the same impression as you.

Just downloaded it today, will see what it's like.

20 gig download? That's just the installation files, the game install is another 23 gig. Thanks to the wonders of fibre I managed it reasonably quickly.

My default graphics setting is ultra, giving me around 30 fps. That surprised me,I thought it would bring this laptop to its knees.WoT does its best to and that's on med to high settings.

I almost exclusively play WT ground combat nowadays due to actually modeled penetration and damage effects. close to Steel Beasts. Hammer_RLG if you want to look me up.

I am downloading this to try it out, but I also am not a fan at all of hit point systems. I will give it a try though as it does look fun and graphically attractive and per some posts above it might be technical enough.

anyone that try it not like it?

Tried it for starters...to me it seems just like world of tanks.Only with models that look like modern AFV.
In my p.o.v. it has the same up/down sides as WoT...and I did not like that one.

Summary: good tactical shooter, nice graphics. But too small maps and all vehicle interfaces look alike. ( no FCS what so ever...ok, not that you'd need one as usual combat ranges are well below 800)

How is the grind compared to WT Ground Forces? I hate having to grind to get the vehicles I want to play. I finally have all the German armor I like in WT and am currently working down the US line a bit...but man I hate the grind.

I think I will not start grinding. I did for some time in WoT...but the every vehicle up the latter was just the same. Samer interfaces, same optics. Only the "outer shell" changed, together with the ever same stuff happening on the map I soon was bored as hell.

Amoured warefare looks acts and feels the same, just with modern models. This 20+ GB HD space can be put to better use now neaner

crossposted from the AW thread in the MWO forum:

I really liked it, playing as Recon. I found that if I hold down "e" while spotting an enemy, a countdown time will start and my guy will "call in fire". Any damage done to the enemy while spotted in this way gets credited to me as "spot damage". Perhaps it's all my time playing long range dakka in MWO, but gunnery was a hoot, and the game rewards good tactics. It also is very punishing of bad tactics.

The number and variety of maps is already impressive, as is the destructibility of many items. For instance, you can knock a tree down in the direction of your choice, and then use the fallen tree as concealment.

I also liked the progression system. The XP points you use to upgrade your vehicle are the same that count toward progressing to the next vehicle, so you must choose between saving for the next tier, or upgrading the vehicle in hand. Speaking of upgrades, the crew and retrofitting system allow for some tailoring to your play style and vehicle type.

Having played Combat Mission Black Sea and Flashpoint campaigns (which aim to model armor battles in a realistic way), the sudden, decisive nature of the combat in this game actually feels reasonably correct, and I appreciate that the matches are generally short, but with a fair amount of tactical decision making compressed into that time.

Having said that, my opinion was not unanimous among the player who joined last night, so your mileage may vary.

I will probably be back on tonight, working on leveling my recon vehicles.
