Um, based on the scope, graphics and gameplay, RB was awesome for its day and quite a bit after!

JFM, you mentioned the central Point soewhere in between: This is not going to be a Flight Sim. Regardless of what the Producers claim - any 12-Year-old can see that, and I think, this Game can be treated like what it is:
It is for sure going to be a nice, funny Nintendo-Style-Action-Game... like WW1 on LSD-Pills wacky

...this is also the Problem, I see: You have tons of Games like this on the Market. Competition is fierce, and these Games are played for a While... and then they quickly dissapear, because the next colorful Game is already waiting to be played.

Red Baron's Competitors are Games like GTA, SciFi-Space-Shooters or even Games like Unreal Tournament.

...and even if WOFF would be a Competitor - WOFF, what we have today, is something, that has over 10 Years of Development in it and it is continually improving. Many of you here in this Forum have witnessed this Process over the Years. This Gap can NEVER be closed by anyone, no matter, how big the Coding-Team is or how much Money is spent for Production.

Very much so!
But every dog has its day.
The WW1 skies are now ruled by WOFF.

I agree, Nietzsche. They can make whatever they want. However, what I dislike is their constantly-waved banners of how historically accurate their product is. For instance, "We are not just building a simulation. We are not just building a game. We are building a time machine that will transform your PC into a fighter aircraft from World War I." And, "We will faithfully recreate history {JFM emphasis] and transport The Great War onto your PC, much like a time machine." As I've said elsewhere when their first Kickstarter failed, that quote is somewhat accurate because time machines don't exist, either. But from what I've seen, their recreations have been as faithful to history as rock bands are to chaste living. People new to the genre read this stuff, think what they behold in anything Mad Otter releases was well-researched and accurate, and then perpetuate the historical myths and misunderstandings and inaccuracies on down the line to infect others.

That Canvas Jacket add on added was sweet.
Main thing I liked was the campaign mode that OBD has really took to an astounding level.

I'm interested to see what comes of this on a second try. Kinda doubt it will ever be.

The outcome might be pathetic...

@JFM: Hmmm... I'm a bit insecure, now... do you think, someone could take that "for real"? I mean, this looks like Super Mario Kart, only airborne...

Love the old Snoopy Red Baron cartoons.

From the article:
"The paint schemes the Germans had were just amazing, with the different crests. They had the red triplane, but then they had all kinds of different checkered patterns."

What the hell?? As already stated... this isn't 1992 anymore. If he's really going to attempt this, he'd better do some homework on his choices of paint schemes. 10 years past the first Albatros line I produced.... and I am STILL correcting them and adding more!! LOL!

I hope this isn't going to be a ring toss to try and make some money. You can't just 'make' a WWI sim, you have to produce it. It will take a lot longer than 1 year to do anything more than a cheezey console game!

Hey... thanks for the Hell's Angels plug Lou. Still love seeing those almost 15 years later. LOL!

Whew!
This thread is getting way too much attention.
Clearly the lack of a WOFF Expansion Pack to discuss is getting everyone all "windy" to coin an appropriate period phrase.
Hurry OBD!

Red Baron was a revelation when it came out and, as far as I am concerned, set the bar for flight sims in the 1990s. It also got many people started in WW1 sims. Red Baron 2/3D also served as a great platform for mods and lasted many years as the gold standard in WW1 sims.

At this point it sounds like a new Red Baron is just an idea in its earliest phase. I wouldn't expect to see it any time soon.

I agree, SirMike. I felt the same way before their first attempt crashed and burned a couple years ago, so I must not have been alone. Mind you, if they produce something awesome then I'll be onboard. But the past is where it belongs and I'm not interested in their constant nostalgic references.

I first got RB3D in 1996, so almost twenty years ago. About twenty years before that I first played Atari's Pong, which at the time was incredible and all the rage. In 1996, if Atari had announced they were going to release a new version of Pong, I really wouldn't have given a #%&*$# anymore.

Great Snoopy shot, Olham!

With the schedule this guy wants to keep, he's obviously 'way better off putting his money into a kickin' rig and buying WOFF!

@Olham - enjoyed the Snoopy shot myself. It's getting about time to dig our "Great Pumpkin" Blu-Ray out of the box again!

You simply must see it. "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is an all-time classic, the second animated special produced by Charles Schultz, Bill Melendez, and Lee Mendelsohn, with music by Vince Guaraldi. It centers around Halloween, with Linus being ridiculed for believing in "the Great Pumpkin", who he believes acts like Santa Claus, and includes the sequence with Snoopy as the WWI flying ace, whose mission is "to find the Red Baron, and shoot him down."

Watching this, and "A Charlie Brown Christmas" are two of the non-negotiables at my house every year. I was about 10 when they came out, I'll be 60 this November, and I've never missed seeing them. I even made a montage of the "dogfight" sequence for my flight sim room!

Same in our house HD, must watch them both every holiday season. Oh, and I've got you beat by one year, I'll be 61 in November.

Olham, I meant to say earlier that I also enjoyed your Snoopy a lot.
