I went a couple years back; boy, talk about 'immersion!' I didn't get to see the Bleriot fly, but did see the Antoinette. And all the rest!! Cool place.

.

Old Rhinebeck is great. I took my son there about six years ago or so. Anyone who can get there really should, it's an experience not to be missed. I was able to sit in the SE5 they had in one of the storage sheds at the time. SWEET!

It's amazing to see the sheer volume of stuff that's there. There are numerous old aero engines sitting in the barns and parts around. Cole Palen acquired A LOT. Who else has original rotaries and water cooled engines sitting around in barns?

"We're going to need an 80 HP Le Rhone..."

"Yeah, got one somewhere back here..."

There are early war monoplanes sitting in the barns, as well as a very old Nieuport with Nungesser's colors. They recently just acquired back a Fokker D.VIII.

If you're in the eastern US, it's definitely worth the trip because it's just so difficult to find so many great originals and reproductions flying. I love to think what they could do with a higher number of volunteers and pilots. I'll bet a number of the planes in the barns and in repair status could come back to life. The only disappointment is the absence of the Nieuport 11, which was an excellent reproduction with an 80 HP Le Rhone in it. It crashed several years ago and the staff there told me they had it in pieces waiting for repair some day.

Wow, what a collection! That Morane looks good.
I wonder if the Siemes-Schuckert is all original?
Thank you for sharing, Mike!
