Finally got my maiden in this morning!

To those who don't have this plane yet, believe the prolific hype! She's not a warbird, she's a sport plane dressed like one, which is very much a good thing: as others have said, she fasts well, she slows pretty well. Not quite as comfortable in slow speed flight as the Cub S, but she'll do it, and she lands herself like the cub.

Funny enough, I dinged the first few landings because I tried to treat her like a warbird; power on and giving her some flare at the last minute for a 3-pointer.

Nope! She'll balloon and come down on her nose! Just line her up on final, cut power, and she'll grease herself in. She autolands pretty much just like the cub, which is quite the accomplishment.


That is, after I got her trimmed. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one using the "recommended" 200mah 2 cell from HH, because she's still a tad tail heavy with the batt full forward. HH probably just figures you're all using babbel bats anyway

I do think a few more packs are in order, but not sure about 3-cell. She pulled pretty hard on the 'stock' 2 cell, so a higher C/mAH 2 cell will likely do the trick for me.

I flew my UMX PT-17 right after that, and bounced the first few landings (man, that's a forgiving plane at all scales!) because Ironically, she DOES need a bit of power to land smoothly.

That said, unfortunately, I'm not sure the parking lot where I work has a big enough 'box' to keep the Jug happy. I'm basically flying in a parking lot boxed in by trees, the equivalent of a small gym with cross winds. Getting her trimmed was a PITA because I didn't have enough room to stretch her out at 80%+ throttle before I needed to be back on the sticks for a turn. In general, it has a higher stress-to-fun ratio than I'd like. Not the Jugs fault, as she does do slow just fine, but it does mean she's more or less relegated to weekend baseball field patrols.
