I had seen them either play for free or low cost indie documentaries.

But this is the first time I have seen a major release on sale there.

I wonder if it is just a tie in to the Mad Max game sale, or if it will become the next trend at their site:

I think it will be the latter. I'm sure the management at Steam has noticed the wild success that both Netflix and Amazon have had and they want a piece of that action. Tying in movies with games on Valve is a natural first step and makes perfect sense.

I'm actually surprised it took this long for them to dig into the movie market

I saw this last week with some other film. Not interesting to me, but if they can make extra $$, whatever.

Of course, on the flip side, WHERE THE #%#& IS HALF LIFE 3?!?!?!?!?!

HL 2 and its follow up episodes all sold very well so I don't understand the hold up either.

Steam has had documentaries/videos available for quite some time now. However I wouldn't be surprised if they expanded it into other genres

Internal reports say that they have tried a few times to do a HL3 but they refuse to release a mediocre HL3 so each time it has been scrapped. Or so the reports say.

Considering how Ep1 and Ep2 went, there's no way they didn't already have a plan for Ep3 in 2007. The fact that they then just braked hard indicates the problem with Valve's "no release dates, no fixed plans, just wild ideas" approach.

Ah, Ron Moore must have been one of the founders of Valve then. biggrin
