On my last big exploration trip I found a few 'virgin' systems.I was a little disappointed at the bonus I received. No more than a few hundred credits per planet.

I have wondered what those drums are. They are almost as large as some medium sized ships. I've taken the Asp back out exploring again. Some photos from my travels. Planet with a very close moon (moon is gray). This gas giant was very far out, and very dim as a result. Gas giant with water based life. Different gas giant. This is the dark side of the rings, the opposite side was incredibly bright.

I'm doing some exploration, approaching the edge of the galaxy's thickness. A few more sights along the way. A sun with a dual coronal mass ejection. I had just arrived here and was fuel scooping as these two emerged. A ringed rocky metalic planet with a highly varied surface. And a rather Mars like planet. Notice that when so near the upper surface of the galaxy's thickness, the glow of the Milky Way stretches out beneath me like a carpet.

I have been on a trip to the upper most reaches of the Milky Way's thickness (as shown on the galaxy map). This image was taken at the farthest reachable star from my current location. All beyond this point are 50+ LY away, well past my Asp's 34Ly range. The Milky Way core at the center top of the image, Sol is around 1300LY below me. There is perhaps one farther star, I will have to jockey around abit to reach it, but I will try since I am out here. Interestingly, in-game year 3301 and being 1250LY to 1270LY from Sol, light from our sun reaching my location in this screenshot would have started it's journey not long from 2015, the year in which I post this message! Binary water worlds with active water based life. A stunning blue-white star. In an asteroid field surrounding a brown dwarf star. My ship was showing about 12% heat increase at this distance from the star. Ringed brown dwarf star. Yet another water world on the edge of the galaxy.

More pics from another explorer: Earth-like planet! Another water world, with carbon-based life The scale of the gas giants and their rings is truly staggering

a scary sight.... bogusheadbox directly ahead
Dont think of it as being vastly outnumbered ... but just having a large target selection.

All these awesome exploration pics inspired me to try a real long distance voyage. Until now I've only ever ventured to nearby nebulae, this time I'm going all the way to NGC6357 and maybe onwards to the galactic centre. Here is my vessel, the Lakon Diamondback, she's a pretty good looking ship. In an ugly sort of way. Off we go, leaving civilization behind us. Who needs it anyway? The first jump of many Let's make with the discoveries! Another star down, several hundred billion to go. Big blue. Welcome to Hoth 10,000 lightyears from Earth and the weather is still miserable... Will (virtual) man ever walk upon her surface? I think this is a good place to set up camp for the night.

Wow, nice finds. I've yet to pick a target for my next exploration trip. I did buy a new ship today:
