Hi all,

Being Austrian, I was really happy to find an "old" layout for the legendary fast "Österreichring" today. rFactor2 might not have the "glitz" of pCARs or Assetto Corsa, but it looks colorful and vivid, with content you won't find anywhere else and very enjoyable physics. Yes, these are 1967 cars on a 1970 track, but that's close enough for me...

BTW, what is the secret to post "sharp" pictures here.... these are 1650 wide PNG originals, and with the upload they get "mushed" up...

Sorry all for the filesize, the images I uploaded were 4MB, but instead of downsizing/sampling the site seems to have increased them to 8MB...

Well that's a unique way to get around the filesize limit. biggrin

rF2 was never the best looker and to be honest that track looks like an rF1 mod. Jesus that skybox is awful...
Nice pics though, I quite like number five, great sense of speed - http://simhq.com/forum/files/usergals/2015/08/full-459-107883-grab_004.png)

While it looks like crap* it is fun to drive! One of the best sim races I ever had was the 1960s F2s around Spa. Half the track was dry, the back half was wet with a drying line that came and went. Realroad or whatever they call it is one of the best sim features ever.
Too bad a lot of the modern stuff feels a bit wonky.

*I could just never get rF2 working right. Chugged along at about 15-20FPS with HDR on @1024 res. If I turned off HDR I could run in native 1600 but it just looked so damn murky. This is on a machine that ran sexy-sharp Assetto at around 50-60FPS on high.

Yep, that's my favorite screen too, and I really like the color there as well.

I'm not sure there is an RF2 track that doesn't look like a RF1 mod wink They have no fancy features, just lots of DX9 geometry and proper shadows/lighting/HDR, which in some way is "old", but in another I like it.

Assetto Corsa by comparison has a more "global illumination" going on, the colors are easier to get natural, and there's more "texture" to objects.

I'll not lie and say I would ditch these improved visuals of AC if they were to come into RF2, but as of now switching to AC (which I briefly considered) for me falls short with a lack of matching content. RF2 now gives me a full 1967 season, 1992 season and 2013 Formula One season. In AC you mostly get one or two cars of each racing class... and the dynamic line, SP pitstops, animated marshalls, safety car... all missing mean it looks and drives nice, but it doesn't allow the kind of "championship roleplay" I like best.

All valid points. Luckily for me I've never been much of a full rules championship sort of guy. I did it once or twice on the old F1 2001, 2002 games but mostly I just hotlap.
I guess it's because it's something I really love to do in real life (Alfa GTV 3.0) but don't get the chance to very often. Also I don't have to pay any fees! biggrin

It's been a while since I played rF2 have they fixed the weird physics on the modern cars like the Clio and GTR? I remember them feeling very unfinished.

Alfa GTV on trackdays? Lovely.

I'm not a 100% distance guy either, but it's nice to have a safety car occasionally collect the field, or see a Marshall waving a blue flag at you on the inlap, or dive-bomb into the pits for a new set of (accelerated wear) tires trying to keep up with the rather excellent AI.

Depending on when you left RF2 you might have missed the realroad evolution no longer being accelerated (can be set at any speed), the ability to easily assign setups for AI, the new rules plugin that gives knockout type qualifying... and a new Contact Patch Tire model. Basically a lot of "under the hood" stuff. And we now have a rather good third-party championship manager which as external tool reads the race log files and keeps track of a full season for the player, offline and online.

To be honest I couldn't say what was wrong with those cars you mention since I never raced them. But right now there's a good choice of "good cars" available. The Honda Civic certainly is the new FWD king, there's a bunch of street-legal Corvettes or the URD Mod or the Apex GT3 mod if GT is your thing...

So basically, I mostly ignore ISI cars. Even the Matra above is a custom modification someone made on the standard "Eve".

So just like rF1 then? wink I dropped out on rF2 about the time the Lola lookalikes came out so I've missed most of those changes. I will have to give ISI another chance. Thanks smile

It is. I would have liked one in Italian racing red but all I could find in my price range was black. Actually, every car I've ever owned has been black. You think I'd learn about the difficulties of keeping black clean when you live in rural Australia!
