A couple from my weekend hunting trip in The Hunter. I'm really enjoying the dog feature. It really adds something special to the game when duck or goose hunting.

I've always wanted to try this one. How large are the map areas?

They are huge but you have to pay for everything including ammo. I had a lifetime unlimited license with all new content free but then they sold the game and the new owners didnt honor the unlimited licenses even though it cost like 200 bucks. I have not played it since then. But the original maps were pretty large. It would take you an hour or two to walk one end to the other.

I've almost purchased this a few times. Too many transactions/ purchases involved.
How long is a hunting license good for?

Very nice graphics!

I've fond memories of playing the old Deer Hunter series and several other titles

Dont get me wrong. It is probably the best hunting game out there but... it will cost you.

I just looked at their pay structure though and it seems they have recently changed it (probably when they went to being on steam.) Now you can get a 3 months license for 15 dollars. It comes with this.

Quote:
14.99 USD
3 months membership
License to hunt all animals
Access to all reserves
Unlimited basic ammo
3 extra weapons + 13 other items Details

Weapons included:
.243 Bolt Action Rifle
12 GA Pump Action Shotgun
.357 Revolver

Items included:
Basic Boots
Compact Digital Camera
Basic Pants
Deer "Bleat" Call
8x42mm Binoculars
HunterMate Minigame
4x32mm Rifle Scope
Basic T-Shirt
2x20mm Handgun Scope
Wind Indicator
Boone & Crockett Cap
Turkey Box Caller
Camping Supplies

I think the weapons and gear go away once your membership expires? Someone would have to confirm that though. They also have a 10 dollar membership which is 3 months unlimited hunting plus unlimited basic ammo and access to all reserves. If you already have weapons that would save you so me money.

Just so you know this is a VAST reduction in price from what it used to be. You used to have to license to hunt every animal individually, buy your weapons with real money and then buy your ammo with real money.

It also appears you can now buy hunting licenses and ammo with in game money. So if you are good at hunting you could probably play this game for free.

15 bucks for 3 months isnt bad but just remember that the starting guns are only good for hunting about 1/3rd of the animals and if you shoot the wrong animal with the wrong gun you get in trouble. It used to be that they fined you in game currency and took your trophy and reduced some of your skills. That might not be the case anymore.

I'd say it's worth a shot for 15 bucks though.

Those memberships have always been there, well since i started a few years ago anyway.

I don't mind paying it as I really enjoy it.

To get the in game credits to buy guns, camo and equipment I just use one of the earn companies, sign up for a betting account with a tenner get 7000 to 10000 credits and bet the tenner on a no brainer and get my money back smile been doing it for years and have pretty much everything in the game.

Edit: Just checked - I bought my first 3 month membership on 27.03.2011 for $14.99. But played for free from 25.07.2009 until then.

I bought the unlimited pack when the game first launched 5/2009. The game was sold to a new company 2/2010. I stopped following it after that. smile

Also they have a dinosaur hunter called The Hunter Primal. FYI... you can hunt people in that one.
