Movies on current events in the Middle East don't have a very good box office track record (Green Zone, Syriana, Stop-Loss, The Kingdom) but if the budget for this film was modest and if it does well in the foreign box office then it might turn a profit.

Of course, "American Sniper" is a huge exception.

"American Sniper" was not in "the same vein" as those that flopped. If the Benghazi is similar to "American Sniper" in its presentation it may do well also.

I generally find it tasteless in a "too soon" type way but that's just me. Only thing that'll impress me is bringing to light the fact that the situation was a political joke, but I doubt it will.

Let's not take this down the political trail. By its very nature, the political issues will have to be in it. But let's stick to the movie as much as we can.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Michael Bay, "elite" fighting forces, loads of guns, big explosions, massive fight scenes, unlimited ammo and with next to no "thinking" to follow the plot, how could that NOT do well at the box office! duh

To be entirely fair, on a scale of 1-10, Stop-Loss dropped a Tsar Bomba on the floor so it could descend to "Pure abomination". I doubt it would've been a success ever. Maybe if it'd been the first colour and talking movie ever, maybe.

As Meatshield mentioned, this is directed by Michael Bay so don't expect any kind of serious, historically-accurate treatment of the event. I think this will be like "The Rock" but set in Libya instead of San Francisco.

I forgot his name but that loud obnoxious muscle-bound guy from the Borderlands games would have been a hardcore Michael Bay fan. biggrin

Just moved up to my "heck, I'll watch it" list.

I'll watch it just to figure out how many places I recognize.

I met some of the visual FX guys while I spent my month in Malta, and they were having a good time doing tons of bullet holes the old fashioned way. Also told us that Mr. Bay changes his mind often, depending on how much white powder he has had in the morning. Which kinda explains why his movies are what they are I guess.

They actually told you they believe he has a serious coke habit? Obviously they are just guessing, I doubt they have any proof, but it's also possible he's just manic--it could be internal and not externally caused.

I can tell from watching his behind the scenes stuff he is a control freak and not a nice person at all. He polishes it up for the interviews, but in the end you can see he's a d-bag and no CG can cover it up. smile

Judging from the movies coming out of Bollywood, for the past decade.....this is probably going to be 'one' I watch, for a change.

I watched the trailer when it first came out, and it seems to be much better than the standard, "Will Brenda ever forgive Billy" and "Johnny Blades roller skates to Fame".....movies, that they've been pumping out of the place where they 'used' to make real movies, years ago.....of course 'American Sniper' was an exception, which most will agree.

I've been stuck on the TCM channel for a long time. With brief, 'disappointing' attempts, at new stuff.
Even pay movie channels are worthless, every time they offer a few days of free viewing, it reassures me that I've made the right decision to NOT buy the extra movie channels.
Not much worth watching anymore. It appears most people agree.

Sad really, cause I think there is money to be made.

....and about the drugs, I don't think you can get across the Bollywood border, if you don't use heavy drugs.
Seriously....I think it's the law.

These United States of America
I can only hope that whomever is putting this out, that their intentions are to draw respectful attention to these citizens and servants of the United States and to honor them and the families that they didn't get to come home to.

I have to say this, I think they should first be honored, not with a movie,(that's a little offensive to me)but with the bringing to justice and accountability those within the administration and security offices who behaved and acted with negligence and whatever else that I see as criminal.

In no unclear terms... according to them a few days before we met he came out of his trailer with a nice lump of the white stuff on his nose. It drove them mad because they often had to redo setups which already were prepared as he was "jumping his mind around" all over the place.
