So I was at Cinemark.com buying tickets for tomorrow's showing of the new M:-I movie and I came across this other movie on their website.

http://www.cinemark.com/vacation.aspx

I was thinking there is no way. Maybe it's just another movie with the same title so I click on it and by everything that's sacred, it is!!

Some of it looks like it's frame by frame reproduction of the same scenes from the original film.

Hollywood has lost its creativity long time ago but this is absolutely absurdly ridiculous.

It's getting torn apart by the critics but it could still do well at the box office.

It's not the same, it's Rusty grown up. He wants to take his family on the Wally World trip though.
Looks funny to me, except for the rafting guide scene they keep playing on the ads.

On the MI movie, I'm hoping to get to see that in the theater. I loved the last one, and this looks to be pretty amazing. Incredible stunt work.

$20 million estimated debut for the entire 5 days weekend (it opened yesterday) is not good.

I couldn't find any production budget info for the film but 20 million+ for the first 5 days of release isn't that bad assuming that it doesn't have a huge drop off during its second weekend and if it does well at the foreign box office.

Looks about as exciting to watch as Pixals. Seen both previews while awaiting Jurassic World
to start. Lame, no way would I pay to see this remade. And Pixals, I was ready to walk out of
theater it was so boring. Just a preview mind you.

As usual these days, the best scenes were probably all in that trailer. reading

Production cost was $31 million, so it's recouped 2/3rds in 5 days. Not bad.

The studio only gets about 50% of the ticket proceeds from the domestic box office. They split it with the theatre chains.

But yes, with a production budget of only 31 million the movie will definitely make a profit.

The target audience for this seems to be the same one as for the "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" movies.

And the budget for the first one of those was $26M and raked almost $230M, with worldwide and DVD sales combined.

Yup. Them Hollywood studio execs are laughing all the way to the bank! However, the sequel didn't do nearly as well but it still made a profit.

I misread that for M1 movie, and thought "cool, I love carbines!"

Just another comedy. Maybe it will be good, maybe it won't, but remember how badly the last couple of Chase's Vacation films did as well as the second Ghostbusters. You can have the same people and still misfire.
