Wreckage matching to that of a Boeing 777 washed up on Reunion Island (off the coast of Madagascar). Awaiting confirmation.

Wait, is this really controversial? Not much drama to a plane crash unless someone shot it down.

The original thread when the aircraft disappeared with some 20-25 pages eventually was locked and/or moved to PWEC.

Anyways, lets hope this is the beginning of the end of closure for the families affected by this tragedy. Still a ton of work ahead.

At the very least it would answer the "landed in a valley hidden somewhere" conspiracies if it was shown to have crashed in the ocean.
Of course, we may never find the impact point.

It looks far to small to be part of a widebody airliner.

I am not familiar with the original route of MH370 before it disappeared and I am not familiar with the general geography of the area.

Is Madagascar near there?

Arrow on the left side with tear drop is Reunion Island, about 400 nm east of Madagascar. Arrow on the right side is the approximate last known position or communication with MH370. Greater circle distance is about 3,300 nm.

That's a big difference!

Is it possible for currents to carry debris that far away?

Well I hope so. Hearing nut-job conspiracy theories got old quick.

I'm reading here that Great Circle sea currents could have carried the debris from off the West Australian coast.

We'll know shortly.

You need to Google 'message in a bottle'.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

You can't really fake barnacles.

It merely confirms the conclusion of most rational people that it crashed in the ocean. But it doesn't really add anything new to the speculation as to why it crashed.

I find it weird that people are hailing this as valuable information... after months at sea it could have come from anywhere. It is quite a bit off from the last known position, yes.

And yes, it will at least stop the "stolen aircraft" conspiracies. Maybe.

One source I read said that it could indeed provide valuable information, based on the types of barnacles found on the part. They said certain species were more likely to collect in the northern waters, and others in southern waters nearer Australia. This could provide clues as to which ocean currents may have carried the pieces, and based on the ages of the barnacles, how recently.

No idea on the validity of that, myself. But who knows.
