<In a pic taking/posting mood, she's coming home late so I'm making supper, what I do best.>

Out of Colby, dammit! No grated cheese so it can't be perfect!

Spinach leaves...

Tomato (cut with her WUSTHOF knife, without permission)...

English cucumber...

Avocado...

Fake crab...

Mushroom (mine only)...

Black olives and artichoke (mine only)...

A little crunchy stuff...

Boiled egg, more black pepper and dressing...

Hungry? smile

Naw, this is the perfect salad:

Nothing against red meat, I just never cared for it other than the occasional gourmet burger. But if it comes out of water there's 100% chance I'll love it!

You can have the turf, give me the surf.

My only tip for the perfect salad is that you need a REALLY big bowl to toss all the ingredients together in (I use tongs for mixing). I like those gigantic stainless steel bowls that restaurants use. Small salad or large salad ... doesn't matter. Toss it like crazy, throw it into a smaller bowl and everyone will call you the salad master. wink

PS. Caesar salad tip ... throw about 5 garlic stuffed olives into the mix!

Good idea, LB. Next time I'll ask her if she wants her salad tossed.

rofl

Seriously, I like the idea and I'd rather it pre-mixed before the first bite but we don't agree on some of the ingredients. She's not one to share a Mediterranean style pizza with me at Mellow Mushroom.

Para_Bellum: On a good day that salad would be full of boiled or sautd shrimp. On a great day it would be real crab meat! Also, we sometimes substitute with grilled chicken breast.

PM: I wish, but my culinary skills haven't really increased in the 7+ years I've been trying. She tries to teach me but I'm not even allowed to use her best knives without supervision ("Use a harder cutting board, you'll dull the blade!", "Don't just throw it in the sink like that!", "Stop that before you cut yourself!", ...nag nag nag).

No105_Archie: Salad...one of the reasons my wife has been taken off Lipitor and is now med free (I'm still on blood pressure meds albeit reduced to a lower dosage).

In keeping with my new weight-loss regime, salad is now on the menu.I made a simple one the other day but without a dressing felt it would be a little bland. My poorly stocked cupboards offered little hope until I remembered what my dad used to put on our salad when we were kids.

So,I made a simple dressing using vinegar, sugar, olive oil,a little mustard and some garlic. Thinking about it,I'm sure dad just used to use sugar and vinegar.A simple dressing but it made all the difference.

The only dressings I eat are Caesar, Ranch and bleu cheese.

Those are healthy right? wink

Chucky, great idea! My father uses straight olive oil, I tried it once...meh. Sometimes I make my own honey mustard simply by mixing local honey and Grey Poupon. I do go light on my store bought vinaigrettes.

I'm on a roll, thought I'd do this morning's breakfast as well, although the same ol' same ol' and not quite as healthy...

Very nice work Mark readytoeat

I've ditched spreads,I have gone back to proper butter. That was 3 weeks at my brothers place that did that.Plus,no more 'diet' stuff like mayo etc.Just reasonable amounts when I do have it.No point making an already difficult eating change more unlikable.

Picking up a pushbike Thursday to help move it along a bit.

Hell, I might as well finish my day (unsalted nuts and fruit to snack on throughout the day, with a sardine lunch)...

Now don't go picking on my sardine lunch, those numbers are hard to beat...

I think I made a similar breakfast just last week.

That salad looks great. I need to do that soon.

Were those quasi-plastic-processed cheese slices or slices of proper cheese ? I really can't eat those "Kraft" type "processed cheese food slices". Not even on a fast food burger....IMO thay are disgusting.

It doesn't really matter what you use as dressing, it's how much you use.

I've seen people that treat a salad like a dressing soup with lettuce floating in it. eek

No105_Archie, you're correct about the cheese, we use to do real Boar's Head cheeses and we need to get back to it. Damn I miss Publix!

She occasionally has Yoga class outside of Whole Foods in Baton Rouge, I'm sure she can find real cheese there (maybe more expensive but we eat very little of it).
