Interesting article here and I definitely admire Young for his stance as an artist,

Since most don't seem to care that much about the quality of the music, just the convenience of streaming, I think his stance will mostly be irrelevant.

He is no Taylor Swift. wink

Unfortunately I think you're right wheels but at least he made his stance known in public.

As for Taylor Swift I'm sure her fans are just a slightly different demographic from Neil Young fans. biggrin

If he wants to make a stand for quality of sound then maybe he should go and buy back all those 8-tracks and cassettes he sold. I highly doubt this has anything to do with "sound quality"

Quote:
"I don't need my music to be devalued by the worst quality in the history of broadcasting or any other form of distribution," Young wrote in the post. "I don't feel right allowing this to be sold to my fans."

no not about the money at all...

I would have thought that at one time also but her music has grown on me lately. I do like Neal Young a lot too so there are a few of us with extremely eclectic musical sensibilities.

Another possible motivation for Neil Young's outspoken stance may be his products, the Pono player and Pono Store:

Well, Neil Young's works are still available on Spotify. He ain't completely "through" with streaming music just yet.

The guy is an audiophile elitist from an age where people would listen to his masterpieces on transistor radios.

You can quote me on that. biggrin

Neil and Graeme Edge (drummer for the Moody Blues) came to a Country Club I worked at for a while which has a clientele of well off people to say the least and Graeme had a Condo there so we would see him from time to time at the Sunday Brunch. Graeme would be well dressed and Neil looked like a Hobo who had just crawled out of a cardboard box and smelled like it as well. I like some of his songs but I could care less about his audiophile sensitivities. He's kind of a douche bag.

Wow, no love for Neil, huh? After the Goldrush is still one of my favorite albums.

As far as high-fidelity goes, if your listening to MP3s on your cell phone thru earbuds (like I do every day at work), you
ARE listening to the millennial equivalent of a transistor radio.

I exaggerated, but not much. Listening to the standard 128-bit sampling rate for MP3s is sheet.
If Neil is trying to get better recorded music for us to listen to, why not?

And if he wants to make money off it, well, that's that American dream. Even though he's Canadian.

It's more of him being a bit phony about why, for me at least. Look I have no issues with anyone trying to make a buck, or more bucks than they currently are. Just don't feed people a line of BS that your trying to do your fans right by not allowing the music to be listened to in what he considers poor quality, when as pointed out, it's never been an issue before smile

Complaining about the quality of streaming music is just a diversion. Sure it's lesser quality, but the real reason is it's hurting his bottom line.

If anyone wants to get their Neil Young fix for free, I'll be "streaming" his songs on Two Rusty cans and a piece of twine next Tuesday between 10:37 am and 10:41 am, ticket pays for the whole seat, but you'll only need THE EDGE!!
