Fellow WOFF pilots,
Has anyone experienced an unexplained fire erupting, mid flight? I was flying a Morane Parasol, in a 1915 career, well inside friendly territory, when suddenly my prop appeared to be shattered and the sound of crackling flames could be heard. This was followed by some on-screen warning about a "fire", along with my pilot's health rapidly declining, and not too much later we were nose into the ground (needless to say, dead).
While all this was going on, I did look around for E/A, but saw nothing in the skies aside for the squad leader, some 100yds or so ahead. I heard no gunfire, saw no tracers, heard no other engine noises....nothing!!
This sim continues to amaze me, with its depth... but this is a first for this kind of event. Has anyone else had their engine suddenly catch fire for no reason? I'm sure this kind of thing happened in R/L....

Seen it happen to an enemy crate flying in formation (no shots have been fired). Seen it happen to my wingman while enroute to target. Happened to me in BE while in landing pattern. Thankfully low on fuel, so the fire was out even before I landed. And it happened to me again in a BE (same pilot) just after take off. Was still able to land back on the airfield.

Various failures are in there for all aircraft, also coolant, oil or fuel can begin to leak. Fuel burns really well Sometimes sure it could be to a rogue hit from archie or a bullet hit, but also likely is a failure if it seems unrelated to those. Usually you'd get a message in the TAC or display messages (if enabled). So just like those pilots you were never really safe in the early craft. Some craft have much worse chances of specific failures where we know that was so of the real aircraft at the time,

Harry Were you over enemy territory or behind friendly lines? I was well behind the lines, in friendly territory, Robert. I know ground fire can be lethal when over enemy territory, but I was nowhere close to the lines, even. I was above 5,000ft, and could not get down quickly enough, before the flames ate up the wings!
