When you have to abort a mission, due to a "system failure" say, and you land long before the other flight members complete the mission. Is there any reason to wait for the other flight members to complete the mission before quitting yourself?

In my latest case, this would require a 30 minute or so wait in real time which could become less if 2-8x time compression is used. If there is no good reason to wait, I would just as soon quit as soon as my part is done.

Also, would it lead to problems just sitting on the ground waiting?

Short answer is "maybe". If you abort and land while your mates are over friendly territory all should be ok. If they are over enemy territory, bad things can sometimes happen. If you aborted because of engine failure and sit on the field waiting your plane can burn up. This has only happened to me once so it is a very rare occurrence.

If I dive out of a fight over enemy lines and go straight to a friendly field and land, I will hit 8X and wait about 3 to 5 min. Which should get my mates back over friendly lines. If I am in a hurry, I end it and what happens happens.

Make sure you turn your engine off while waiting on the ground and yes, you should give you mates time to get home. As MFair has said, a good few minutes with time compression is usually enough for them to get back to safety.

I would say wait, I've had to abort and land at a friendly base and when I quit everybody but me went missing, both flights. A squadron of 15 lost 10 members in one mission.

Oh My! At the time I thought "maybe I should wait" and then didn't... what could happen? It is March of 1915 and pilots are throwing darts at each other. smile And now I know. eek

Thanks for the info. And after I work up my nerve, I'll try the next mission and see if the RNG really does hate me.

Melodrama aside, I am kind of curious. I like that there are consequences, maybe some bad and probably some good.

Off we go, into the wild blue yonder, climbing high, into the sky! pilot

Like Smosh said, make sure your engine is off.

Usually I'll turn on the game clock (Z) and fast forward for 30 game minutes on speed 16. That gives my 'friends' plenty of time to sort out what they're going to do.

It looks like the RNG does not hate me after all. biggrin

When I started my next mission for Allan Burrel, who spent 7 days in the hospital, there were no consequences for doing the control+Q out of the "system faillure" mission before the other 2 flight members returned. All present and rarin' to go again.

The next mission was a bombing run and all went well. I still keep a close lookout for a rough sounding engine, or slowing RPMs, or any thing else unusual as suggested by all the helpful folks.
