So after letting it sit on my desk for a week and constantly explaining to my wife that I wasn't ready to start it after each 'That doesn't look like your new game', I spun this one up last night.

Now I love the Alien universe but this game is just awful.

I am sitting there in the dark playing this game with headphones on my PS4. To tell you where I am currently in the story, I just found the door jack tool. For those of you that haven't played, that is about 30 minutes in. I haven't seen anything yet, AND I AM ABOUT TO POOPOO MY PANTS.

I love horror/scary movies but tend to not play horror games (gets me too worked up). But since this is Alien, I had to give it a try. At this point, when I do see the creature I may just keel over and croke. Starting to wonder if I should continue.

Is there just a corner I can curl up in and cry quietly til he comes for me?

Yeah maybe you shouldn't play this in the dark with headphones on.

Here's some advice on survival. Never stay in one spot for too long, especially when trying to hide! It's best to just keep moving, while maintaining some level of reduced volume (don't be too F'n loud!), and hide only 'til you can successfully start moving again. The Alien will find you eventually if you don't move, and when it does it aint gonna be pretty!

After the Rockets game last night I tried to turn the game on. My fingers wouldn't do it.

Yeah don't play in the dark, also Coot passed on a good tip which helped me, when you see the alien for the first time, just go up to him and get your first death over with, then the next time you see an alien, you've already been through the death and won't be so scared.

Of course all that is assuming you don't want to crap your pants playing this game, but if you like the serious scare ignore biggrin

LOL, I couldn't play it with my surround sound on either. Glad to see it affects others in a similar fashion. Great immersion. Reminds me of the first time I played one of the later versions of Doom, same surround sound and great lighting effects.

Let us know how it turns out Feetwet.

Reminds me of the first time I played Morrowind. The music and sound effects that played when you entered a tomb was really creepy lol.

I will, thankfully for my health I have to take a break from it while on the road. Maybe 30 minutes a week is a good goal...

Played it some this afternoon with just my surround sound. Did not help, I am just as terrified as before.

SPOILER WARNING:

So I found a buddy and started working with him. His fate is probably the most obvious in video game history. So after his death I make it to the transit, press the button and wait. The tension builds as that slow #%&*$# makes it way to me. The doors open and I enetered. Well I'm looking around just inside the door and I have no clue what to do. Look out the opening and....

FU...."................

Death number one.

Loving it so far but it definitely has to stay short sessions.

Yeah that's the first major tense/alien encounter build up Feetwet when you enter the tram. You just got to head to the back of it and press the button. That's where I first got killed too because I took too long, didn't know what to do, and was just shy of having heart failure from the dang music and tension build up orchestrated on that level.

It does get better though because I had your problem too but a couple of things helped me that I found online. Like Kludger said, when you are in an area and you know the alien is in the level with you, just go right up and let it kill you maybe even a couple of times. It helps rob some of the fear factor but not so much as to spoil the purpose of the game. Even though it can still be creepy and startling at times, sometimes the alien just sort of becomes this pesky alien fido that won't leave you alone.

Also, you don't make as much noise as you think when you walk and you move faster this way than just crouching which I did all the time. This tip really helped me in progressing in the game and moving on from places I'd been stuck because I took too long. Sometimes you can walk right past the alien with its tail literally sliding out from under you and if you just keep moving and he's facing the other way, you often times can get where you need to go and quicker without him even noticing.

Also, distractions. Distraction devices are often key for luring the alien to the opposite side of where you are trying to get.

How far have you gotten in A:I as of now?
I guess you didn't buy the 'Free-Flow Deluxe Edition': It included 12 bags of Depends with the game. I had to go buy a few more bags, that was my only complaint. winkngrin

I hate to admit it but I quit. Love the game but it was very unhealthy.

You just have to play it with Oculus Rift or another VR headset on.
Then you die in real life.

I remember playing Doom for the first time as a kid. It was so scary but also so good. The only way to get around the fear was to play as a trio with my friends. One person controlled the movement, one person shot the gun, and the last person controlled interacting with the environment and bringing up the map. That was some intense "multi-player" action.
