http://edition.cnn.com/2015/07/04/us/texas-alligator-attackOrange County Justice of the Peace Rodney Price told CNN affiliate KFDM that Woodward ignored verbal warnings and a posted "No Swimming Alligators" sign and seemed to mock the deadly creatures before going in the water.
"He removed his shirt, removed his billfold ... someone shouted a warning and he said 'blank the alligators' and jumped in to the water and almost immediately yelled for help," Price said. I think it's fair to say we have found this year's Darwin Award winner.

My father and I enjoy canoeing the bayous, I sit up front with a long double-bladed kayak paddle and he sits in back with a regular wooden paddle, mainly acting as rudder. A very peaceful and enjoyable upper-body workout, although even with weightlifting half-gloves I get blisters.
Anyway, we see these creatures all the time, they'll passively watch us but keep their distance and we don't mess with them. When we see a gator slide (slick path of mud on the bank) we steer along the opposite bank.
Still, being so close to the water (vs. his motorboat) and with only human propulsion, it can be a little disconcerting (same with snakes in the water). Also, like his kayaks this canoe sits on top the water, a good wind will push it sideways and it's not impossible to flip while you're paddling hard to correct.
Nature and power tools, nothing but respect.

Reminded me of a woman who jumped into a pool filled with polar bears (what zoo, I can't remember. Brain's turning into mush).

Maybe he meant f*** the alligators literally and was caught hanging out the back of Mrs Gator by Mr Gator!
That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead? Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick. Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake. No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

That's one way to fix stupid. I feel sorry for the family, but not for the Darwin award winner.

I feel sorry for the family And all the others who had to witness his demise. They now might have to endure nightmares because of that idiot.
Why men throw their lives away attacking an armed Witcher... I'll never know. Something wrong with my face?

All of the tv shows with people going in and grabbing them with ease and wrangling them probably does lead some of the dumber population to not take them seriously enough. Doesn't mean you know what those people do, even if they downplay what they're doing. If there was a big gator where they didn't want it to be, I wonder why they didn't kill or relocate it? Happens around here throughout the year.

Mocking Alligators doesn't work, they are too thick-skinned to take umbrage
