Having purchased a new, expensive rig a while back....just to fly WOFF, I'm overwhelmed by how beautiful the game is finally. All the adds, updates, changes have taken a stuttering, low FPS hope to a fluid beautiful present that more than fulfills all the expectations I ever had of WOFF. Flying CFS3, OFF, and WOFF...and dealt with the frustrations and changes.....I'm totally content with the sim as it stands finally. I've more than decent framerates, all the combat a maniac could ask for....and all the eye candy I'd ever wished for. THANK YOU ALL!!!! It's gorgeous!!!!!

Hi Guys
Finally, I am on the cusp of having a new rig built. What, in your considered opine, would be the blueprint for a top drawer WOFF specific machine ?

Cheers

This is basically my machine, bought and built just for WOFF, and it eats it up even at max settings.
Just to give you a base. Others will have their own thoughts.

Intel Core i7 4790 (3.6GHz) + 4.1GHz Turboboost.
16GB DDR3
2TB HDD + 32GB SSD HDD
Nvidia GTX 970 4GB
Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit

Depending on your budget of course, just bear in mind that you won't need expansives Quadcores CPUs,a Dual can do,what matters is speed! So a faster Dual it's better than a slower Quad (money in the pocket).
RAM at 8Gb it's more than enough, since you won't be doing other tasks while WOFFing, video board of the N'Vidia sibling, also that depends on what bidget you run for it,the higher the better of course (an example the 750GTX TI now has a very good price and can run it at top settings),and last but not least an SSD HD,that's mandatory.
Beyond a certain point, what more you spend does not give you better performances.

With the recent patch my rig has seen a great FPS improvement.

I'd say any AMD six core@3.7 and above CPU or Intel equivalent. Any graphics card at 270x 2gig or above or equivalent nvidea card. 8 gig of ram and Win 7 64bit will get it looking like the recent screenshots of the Pup I just put up. Go higher than that then it will only get better.

I run 55455. Low woods, normal aircraft skin and light activity. I have aircraft shaders at 5. I get around 50 to 60 FPS..lowest around low 40's in 1918. I can go to x8 and sill have fps around 8fps at x4 around 25fps. I'm at high quality x16AF and either supersampling at x4 or adaptive multisampling edge detect at x12. 1920x1080.

My rig,

AMD6core@3.7
8Gig ram
AMD270 2gig graphics card
Win7 64bit

If I was to up anything at the moment it would be the graphics card to a 4gig card.

Take a look at my screenshots and see what a simple i3,a lousy GT630 and only 4 Gb of RAM can do... winkngrin
Thus maintaining a very good FPS rate. With the latest game shaders you really do not need resource devouring Supesampling and other "tricks".

I'd like to do a budget upgrade to my rig.

I am running:
Intel I7 920 2.67GHz (stock, not overclocked)
16G DDR3
Nvidia GTX550 Ti
SATA drives
Win7 64b

Would just tossing in another GPU be worth it? This rig has lasted me 5 years now... I can't complain. It runs WOFF at about 35-45 FPS with a lot of things turned up, but not at full.

I replaced the GTX 750Ti 2GB in my system (described earlier) with a GTX 970 4GB and it made a huge difference for me.

Yeah, I'm thinking just a GPU upgrade should do the trick. I don't see a need for a whole new system. My CPU can be overclocked, and it's already a pretty decent rig for being 4 years old.

You'll get better performance replacing your GPU.

Take a look at the hierarchy charts. For GPU, anything from the base of the arrow above will see a better performance. For CPU, anything in the orange box will see a performance boost. You'll need to research prices to see what you can afford.

I'm thinking the same thing. Somebody said, at least for the NVidia cards, that you should stick with the last two digits when upgrading - ie. don't go from a GTX 580 to a GTX 660, for instance - chose the last two digits to be equal or higher. Not sure how true this is. But my GTX 580, even factoy OC'd, seesm to be ahving abfew issues here and there - i could dial back some settings, or upgrade, so I guess something like a GTX 780 or above might be a good move. As in my siggie, I'm running an i7-2600K at 4.1 GHz and may be able tweak that a bit more. But I'm so danged busy that doing a detailed look at how far is too far on the graphic card is a bit more tahn I can handle right now.

Yeah, that's a (not too) veiled hint for input!

Thanks guys...

Well, it's not like it's entirely without reason; it's actually something I heard here. I forget who said it but I think they gave some numbers for comparison. Anyway, I guess if I get some time I'll just have to start comparing specifications & see how far I can go. It's tedious though; i don't want to go sinking money into a feature my motherboard doesn't even support.

As to your other topic, in general I agree with you. If you want to discuss that fellow from Galilee, though, I'd be happy to discuss that privately. beercheers

Mere numbers and benchtests, does little to shed a light,I mean what you can see on paper or benchmarks it'a not what you'll see "practically",depnds what's the software you are aimed at,some video cards in the 400/700€ price range, won't offer a decent improvement in WOFF,over a GTX 750 TI,that's the fact;so if it's WOFF that you want to get going,I'll say you won't need to dry up your wallet winkngrin
About the other thing,I was not meaning just Him and His followers, but any religion in general,Christians are the last to have showed up on stage, they just took bits and pieces here and there,to assemble their Book, nothing special just a bad case of Copy/Paste,there are more and much older Religions than that one,for instance.

You would be in incorrect C57 in regarding a GTX 750Ti 2 GB card as a functional equivalent in WOFF for the GTX 970 4GB card I have now.
GENERALLY speaking as I putz in QC or some other low demand event then yes the 750 and 970 can be set for ROUGHLY (very roughly) the same graphics level.
Where the differences in the cards shine is in the ability to use TC (a mandatory requirement for me) and the ability to fly in ANY WOFF situation without having to dial back something because it's 1918 or because there is 30 planes in the air.
The 970 was worth every penny in the advantages it brought to WOFF for me over the 750 Ti.
This is not your "mere numbers and benchmarks"...I lived with both cards for months.
