Oculus and Vive around the corner makes such things unnecessary.
But if there wasnt VR i would definately consider getting one as well!

this is obviously a thread not dealing with Occulus etc. I dont understand why this kind of shortsighted remark just gets perpetuated. IF your not interested and you think Occulus etal is the be all and end all why waste everyone's bandwidth.

Especially putting down someones project and very hard work in the process.

For anyone that has a simpit and wants to use it, Oculus isn't providing the solution yet.

Oculus is useless when you want to reference printed-out, physical copies of charts, diagrams, etc. I can't imagine taking a 9-line for the Warthog CAS without having my kneepad and pen.... or looking up tower frequencies for Falcon BMS without my usual charts.

Well I doubt the bigger screen has lived out its usefulness. With Projectors getting lower in price and higher in rez it is in fact the bees knees..

I have a 4'10' Curved screen and would not trade it for the world.. This setup the Icarus is very nicely priced and very nice to fly on..

Like what has been previously said would be impossiblpe to take a 9line or read Charts with a Headpiece blocking your vision..

I think both have their place and for flight bigger is most definitely better..

People also seem to forget some folks suffer from motion sickness from using those headsets. I personally want to try then but I suffer from motion sickness from games with first person perspective when they have sub 80° FoV.

As someone with access to OR I have to say that it is an amazing experience.
But in this part of SimHQ, the pit builders room, OR has no place.
It is just not practical, mainly as it blinds you to the control mechanisms we have painstakingly set up.

castAR, on the other hand, could be used in conjunction with your pit controls.

We'll be at the Flight Simulation Convention over the weekend of the 18th & 19th of July. The Icarus will be there along with the VBS Virtual Blade. So if you're free for the weekend come down to the International Helicopter Museum in Weston-Super-Mare and have a go!

One of the guys at work brought his OR set up in for us to try and I had to take the headset off after a couple of seconds. I felt really giddy.

I do suffer from motion sickness on boats and busses but not in aircraft and cars.

OR is definitely not for me. I'll stick with my back projected windscreen on the pit.

I was curious, how easy is it to read the gauges/text in the HUD with these systems. Kind of curious from a resolution standpoint (pixels/degree of view angle) and from an overlap standpoint (items that are being rendered by both projectors)
