$906 for vision exam, photos of both eyes, and a new pair of progressive double vision prescription glasses and I have insurance!

No wonder the poor get poorer!

Imagine if you had no insurance how much it would had cost!

I paid mine out of pocket just last year and it only cost me 200 for vision test, contact lens test, 1 pair of glasses and a box of contacts for each eye...

You just got robbed...

The glasses you had were progressive double vision for both near and reading and distance for driving?

Progressive lenses are expensive!

But worth every penny.

I know a few who make do with reading glasses from Walmart, even for non-reading purposes.

I'm going to be paying $325 out of pocket, but that's because I went with a Porsche titanium frame super duper transition lenses. #swag

Dang man that's way too much. I'm in between jobs right now but my vision exam was only about 40 dollars and maybe another ten for some sort of other test. 30 something dollars for the lenses and then I buy a particular titanium frame that I've had and loved for years which by themselves are 100 dollars but are worth it to me.

I worked at Sams at the time so with insurance and employee discount I spent I think just under 300 dollars for it all.

Paid $860 for my progressives 3 years ago out of pocket. Exam cost $39. Now we
have insurance for it and its again for another exam. Will see if I need new
again. So far these glasses feel right yet. And these are from Walmart. You
get what you pay for.

Oh yeah, our insurance is from Walmart to. And under United Health Care Medica

Wowz.

I got some glasses at Sears in January and paid $225 for exam and glasses.

Granted, not progressives.

Paid out of pocket, no insurance at the time.

Nope, you are not alone, I paid for prgressive bifocals with transitions lenses and upgraded lenses
since my last glass one kept cracking for free. And the frames are those wire frames you can twist
and regain there shape. Yep, expensive but they are still like brand new, no scratches and frame
is in great shape.

Sad thing about that, last time I had the same frames from another Eye care outfit and I opted
to keep the frames. Same kind. Turned out those frames snapped at nose bridge 2 months later.
No coverage to replace. Had to fit my lenses in a frame as possible to fit them. That was the
end of that eye care provider, they also messed up prescription by turning it up to much thinking
my eyes would be even worse. Which actually hurt my eyes. Walmart fixed it. And now I see just
fine without those problems.

I thought about going to Wal Mart but then I thought I better not.

You get what you pay for and when you go to Wal Mart, you really do get what you paid for and not in a good way either.

Actually to be more precise, out of that $906, $128 was my eye exam and $78 was for the photos for each eye.

So the glasses were $700 including sales tax but still nothing to sneeze at.

The poor keep getting poorer because people try to live beyond their means. If everybody would quit running up crazy balances on credit cards, buying $30,000 dollar cars just to wear out driving back and forth to work, and buying houses with payments so high they can barely make the payment they wouldn't be 'getting poorer'. It's a sign of the 'instant gratification generation'. If $1,000 makes or breaks you, you need to take a hard look at where your money is going.

On the glasses...yeah, you got ripped. My wife got progressives a few months ago and the glasses and exam cost about $300.

Well, I paid the $906 in cash so I don't have to worry about paying it 25 days from now when the credit card bill comes.

I try to pay everything cash or direct debit from my checking account Visa card including mortgage and utilities and car payment and insurance and groceries and other monthly basics.

I'll never understand that. What's the difference? You have the money now, so you'll still have it when the bill comes. If you can't resist spending the limit on the card, whatever it may be or how much money you actually have, that's a totally separate issue and it has nothing to do with credit cards.

If someone hacks your credit card, you have fraud protection that's pretty good. I once got back $20,000 that a contractor ripped me off for because I put in on my Discover card. smile
However, someone hacks your debit card, they can empty out whatever is in your account and it can take a LOT longer to get it back.

Cash is slow as I have to wait for them to count it out and then count out the change, I only use it for small things like a meal. I pull $40 out once a week from the ATM and that's it.

I hope that contractor is in some Florida jail right now serving a lengthy sentence. Frakking Florida.
