Nice drop. Wheels Cheers Wheelsup. Problem with doing a well-made dynamic campaign as the USAAF is that targets aren't common. After absolutely smashing the Germans on June 10th 12:4 in a huge fighter sweep, its a week of 3-4 sorties a day for my squadron without any real enemy contact. Routine escorts and patrols. I don't like routine; and I had resigned myself to another boring CAP over friendly shipping to the Allied beachhead when we hit the jackpot: Cherboug's been in friendly hands for well over a week, but its a ruin. Just like in reality, protecting the beaches means ensuring supplies to the ground troops. All's quiet for a bit, but then we spot 190s just below us at 20, 000 feet. It's go time. Satisfaction. The throat's wet now. I order a flight to stay top and break the rest of the squadron into pairs, open season. The Luftwaffe is making a rare showing; much lower than our initial contacts, another group of FWs roar in. The fight spirals down, and the damned ships begin putting up ack-ack even with us in the fight. This is the first time I've fought below 16, 000 feet all campaign and I'm not enjoying it: Too close for comfort, luckily his deflection left much to be desired. My wingman picks him up and allows me to extend. My turn. The 190 tries to extend after scissors don't shake me, but its too late now, he has no speed. Two for the first sortie of the day, something tells me it'll be quiet after this excitement. For no losses of our own we account for 6 FWs, the rest run into some clouds and slink off. All they have to show for their efforts is a single ship hit.

No, not with that 6N on the side, there. The 352ND'S 328TH Squadron used PE. The 352nd did have those blue noses, of course, but that's a fictitious squadron code.

Never realized "6N" was fictious, that's a shame. Hope to have more eye-candy up soon, but have been sidetracked with work and Combat Mission.
