Nobody runs action cams? I've seen some good alternatives, but it's hard to weed out the real ones from the copies. That and the right combo of attachments. Hoping to buy 3 is the reason for not going with the expensive GoPro.
I got a cheapo from Aldi it has 1080p resolution waterproof housing and a mount for using in the car and a clamp to use on the handlebars or such.
it works fine but the battery does not last a bang, about 20 minutes at the most, and it won't record and charge at the same time.
However it does link to the iPhone and transmit video back to it and uses the iphone as a remote control all through WiFi connection, it was €89 when I bought it.
I really wanted it for it's time lapse ability but with the battery only lasting about 20 minutes it was just about useless at it.
This is the only video I have made with it, just to test it out
will be available shortly...

After spending entirely TOO MUCH time checking up on tons of cameras, I arrived at some favorites. Found a very useful youtube channel that helped immensely, covering many of the "action cameras" I was looking at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5I2hjZYiW9gZPVkvzM8_Cw
Perfect reviews for someone like me that isn't that photo/video savvy. Got this one for myself, the TCL SVC-200 SVC200 Mini Sport. Apparently a really good size, and a shape I prefer to the GoPro, has the remote I want for still shots, fewer mounts, but adds a backup battery charger. Good quality video and stills. I'll be using this on my fishing kayak, so I feel much better with a cheaper piece of equipment at risk.
For my parents and in-laws, I got a pair of the SJCam SJ4000's. Tons of mounts, good quality, should be good on road trips and bike rides. My Dad does a lot of cycling and should be documenting his rides, as well as using the camera for defense against drivers. They should all get good use out of them.
All have LCD screens. Got the set of 3 for less than the cost of one GoPro 3 Hero Silver, a middle of the road GoPro. Hope the reviews are right!
