hello
i am trying to make a analog handbrake for car simulations.

would be very appreciative of someone that can tell me what is required when using hall effect sensors.
i am new to using this technology.
when using analog potentiometers, i was able to control the degree of pot min - max deflection by way of the size of spur gears connected to the pot.
if i got 0-5 volts out of the circuit if the magnet were to turn 0-180 degrees
how can i can i change the configure of the circuit to output 0-5 volts, if this time the magnet only was allow to turn 0-90 degrees?

after watching a youtube video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHM3ahJ8FYQ
and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MegJCuHZjI
it looks like i can change the max output in relation to the degree of max deflection by way of adding an analog potentiometer used for TRIM?

this site has info relevant to my project
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/content.php?r=88-Hall-Effects-Sensors-to-make-a-joystick

i would like to continue to use gears, but unfortunately, i can not mount a spur gear to the pivot point. i wanted to use the linkage and connect it to a rack gear, but it will make the project more bulky than it needs to be.
i have decided on hall effect sensors because i feel like i can glue a magnet on the pivot point.

i just dont know what kind of magnets to get, and if someone could recommend me some hall effect sensor par number/ manufacturers, VERY MUCH APPREICATED!!!

Hannibal,

I don't have a direct answer for your questions. You might check out another thread on here, starting at
http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ub...USB#Post4097757

mega_mozg_13 has done some great stuff. At least some of it is using MaRs sensors instead of hall sensors. In nay case, you may be able to get some good answers from mega_mozg_13 or Sokol1 in there.

I seem to recall seeing something about being able to reduce the needed degrees of movement similar to what you describe, but I can't put my fingers on it right now.

I went through these same issues when I was using the Alegro 1302 or 1301. They req 180deg of travel for full swing and also take pretty strong magnets. Howewver I switched to Alegro 1324 in the same form factor and achieved a 90deg full voltage swing. I made a thread a while back about making my own sealed miniature Hall pots, including parts lists.

The pots are easy to make, but regardless of whether you make enclosed pots like those or not, the formula for magnet placement/strength/sensor is still valid and very easy to replicate. It's a second generation adaptation of Gene Buckle's 'bic pen method', but the magnets and sensors I used can also be used in his original formula using a skateboard bearing...

That's what I was trying to recall. I knew I had seen something about a different model number sensor!

i think it has something to do with the trim pot.

but great info from everyone! many many thanks!
im going to have to put this info to use when u refurbish some F15 suncom flight sticks.
i need to make compact size gimbles (any info for gimbles welcomed)
im defintely going to use hall effect sensors for the F15 mods

my handbrake mod has been nixed for hall effect, i come to find out that the pivot point also rotates, so im going to have to design a rack gear solution to turn a pot. :/

In Suncom F-15 gimbal is very trick put HALL sensor (or anything that not the original potentiometers) because this gimbal use a "oscillating disk" to move the pot lever. The "plate" move up and down and turn around a ball join in potentiometer lever.

This mod supposed work good - but the magnets size is crucial, since magnet block act as lever - MOD describe here:

http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ub...tml#Post3108472

15x5x5mm or 5x5x5mm neodmium magnets is available on eBay.

And here's other guy report success done the Doc'Flyer HALL MOD.

thanks for the reply. i was going to make a gimble from scratch, the housing of the suncom is too big, i plan to have this near my crotch with an extended shaft (3"?) so, i am pursuing to make a compact gimble
