Howdy All,
The SimHQ community knows it all, it is a fact. My Kindle is urgently requiring a download and my memory, Google & Amazon have failed me repeatedly since last night.
In a nutshell : A biography from a Luftwaffe fighter pilot. Was shot down in Sicily, baled out and was one of the last Germans off the island at the liberation. His 109 was rigged with a timed-bomb in Romania or Bulgaria. Blew up, baled out, barely survived and ended in hospital. Buried with full honor an American airman who fell with failed chute at the edge of a Luftwaffe airfield. Flew till the end. Not an experten, but not too shabby either. Good read decades back, and thus the urgency.
If I remember correctly, all missions on the Western-ish Front, no Russia, but I could be wrong.
Can anyone provide title and author ?
Cheers, Slug

I think I have this book. I'm at work now but from memory (!) the author was Peter Henn which was not his real name. I can't remember the title at the moment. RedToo. Here you go: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=37660

No problem Slug, one of my favourite pilot memoirs! Real book doesn't look too pricey: http://www.amazon.com/Last-Battle-The-Memoirs-Fighter/dp/B0000CJ0E1Here's a pic from the book: 'The authors 109 which he crashed at 200mph.' RedToo.

One of the first aviation book I read. Pretty tense! I remember the author writing about a P-47 that crash landed, slid into a small house and destroyed it. Still, the pilot walked out without a scratch. Can't think about the impression it should have done on the germans who saw that!
Murphy's Law says, "Whatever can go wrong, will, and when you least expect it." (And, of course, we all know that Murphy was an aviator.)
