Yeah, I had a hernia repair 2 months ago and I was in and out in just under 4 hours counting administrative stuff, a late surgeon who is also extremely meticulous in closing so takes longer than average, and recovery time (which was also longer than average as apparently I scared the crap out of the nurses as I came out of surgery white as a sheet).

It was laproscopic but even if it was open or converted to open it would have been the same except for a longer surgery time.

Wow, that's a lot of staples. I'm suprised they didn't bandage it, when I had a knee op as a teenager back in the 90's my leg was tightly bound, but I had keyhole surgery and it wasn't as serious as that.

Don't be tempted to bend it, I bent mine a tiny bit and it made the worse grinding squelching noise I have ever heard, yuck!

What did they do to your ankle, was it where they were man handling you on the table?

Good luck with your recovery!

That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead?
Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick.
Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake.
No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

Actually, I need to bend it more. I was under the impression that the bending should be to pain and a tad bit more. The last 4.5 days I didn't push it. The doc told me I have to push it and need to be at 90 degrees (I'm at 58-60 degrees) in 9 days. The scar tissue will freeze my knee and limit my range of motion, I must push through and get it moving if I'm ever to have any hope of getting my ROM back. Without my ROM being normal, I'm getting discharged.

That's no knee...it's a space station! At least, it looks like it had an equal amount of time put into construction! eek

Very true, I had my shoulder surgery last June and the day after surgery they have you go to PT and swing your arm like a pendulum to get motion going. Boy did that hurt like a mother! Glad I don't have scars like yours Tim! eek

Think that goes for most forms of surgery today, they moved away from the "bandage everything, don't move until healed" mantra. Few years ago, even something like open heart surgery, they wanted you to rest, lie still and wait until it all healed up. When I went through it last year, they basically kicked me out of bed as soon as possible and had me moving about. Even got me up on an exercise bike.

Timothy,

Get the Cryo-Cuff on and ice that sucker as much as you can, both my kids blew out knees (one BBall & on FBall) and had surgeries.

Very lucky to have a Physio person in town who worked for a Pro Sports team and they have had tough work but great results. My son was on a tread mill running after 12 weeks, which was a bit shocking.

Not to mention a shout out to University Hospital Western and the Fowler Kennedy Clinic, which have been nothing but amazing.

S!

They used to provide this, but no longer. They ended the program as a cost cutting procedure.

I'm now mobile enough to go to the SF Therapists and use theirs. Seriously, the VA just sucks for service.

Wow, things have changed since my op, I'd worry my scars would open up again but I suppose reflecting on the different care my wife received after C-section number two I shouldn't be too surprised.
9 years ago she was kept in for a week, 14 months ago she was discharged after 3 days.

One thing that hasn't changed is the marker pen everywhere, I remember being shaved and then drawn all over, also, the last thing I remember after being prepped for surgery is the anaesthetist, after canulating me he looked at me, smiled and announced that he liked young boys as they have fat veins.... Mum!!!!!

Progress on my knee:

https://instagram.com/p/8op-bcn3CP/

I'm also dragging a sled with 300 pounds of plates on it and I am pushing 270 pounds about 35 yards each way. I do it twice a week specifically for about 2 hours straight.

I do therapy 5 days a week and looks like if I can pass the Pre-Dive, I'll be able to do that in April. Worst 3 weeks you can have, but they can't get enough 18 series to volunteer to fill the school.

Tim, have you tried swimming with flippers? We used it during knee injury recuperation quite a bit. You look ridiculous snorkeling in a swimming pool, but it was one of the best exercises for stabilizing the knee we found.

I do swim, been teaching guys who can't swim to swim in the unit. All are black, except one...stereo types....

I'll start looking into the drown proofing refresher that they have regularly. I passed it once last year.

I have trainers that are PhD strength and therapy coaches, so they've got me on a brutal workout program. I'm not complaining, I am at 12% body fat and should be at 9% by Thanksgiving. I was at 18% when I started.

Sounds like a good post operation support team you have there, Tim. The difference between it and the VA is mind boggling.
