L'Etoile du Nord
.

Good Morning All,

Now that I have my Flanders, Marne, and Verdun maps updated, (for the most part), I am beginning the process of creating versions for some of the different times, i.e. early 1916, late 1916, early 1917, etc), and would like to know if folks prefer to have the front lines shown on the maps or not. I fly without much in the way of information on my maps apart from aerodromes and depots, but I can provide all the various icons and the front lines as well. Here is an example of the Flanders map, circa 1 February 1916, showing all the information as seen on the in-sim map, (open the map in a new window to view it full size):

Let me know if you would prefer the maps this way. Thanks.

Happy Navigating!

.

I'd *love* to see the frontlines included!

And thanks again for your hard work. smile

One more for marked front lines, Lou - might help to avoid ending up as a PoW.
And one more BIG thank-you, Sir!

On my print-outs I have always drawn the lines in myself. It is needed.

Thanks for making these maps at all. They are excellent!

I guess they'd have that drawn in real life? also, it'd be a huge boost for my morale, since then I could actually find something on the map and locate it on the ground; I'm not that handy yet with these things....

Yep, it would be great to see the front lines, considering they're a major point of reference for combat and navigation!

I know it would be fair to include them to some point - as far as I know, both sides, and especially the Brits, had the front mapped pretty thoroughly throughout the war (I mean, that's why all those two seaters are up there!)

I'll take all the info I can get.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.

One other suggestion is to make the large cities not have the striped pattern.I find it hard to read the name written across it at times.Oh and yeah Lou,thanks from me also. cheers

If the aerodromes are included it would make sense to have the lines in as well, I suppose. My understanding is that, early on at least, Michelin tour maps were used as there were no good military maps of the battle areas. To that end, I would prefer not having any of it and we could draw in what we know and/or see ourselves.

SALUTE TO ALL!

.

Thanks for all the feedback Gents, much appreciated. Consensus appears to be for the front lines and all the in-sim info, with the exception of vonBaur who prefers his maps 'neat'. No problem to create them both ways.

Wolfstriked, I hadn't noticed that the city names are hard to read on the striped background. Perhaps you and others here would rather have a solid color. Here is an example of the Marne map showing a solid background for the cities, let me know what you think, (again, open map in a new window to view it full size).

Looks great Lou.One other thing that confuses me is the historical markers. They seem to be small villages from what I have observed.Maybe make them the same color?I always wonder if its a lake or a town from the similar purple color.

Of course this should only be done by a majority vote.

Wolfstriked, the historical reference points are not in the sim landscape and I've shown them in purple so they won't be confused with features you actually will see in the landscape. They are there to serve as points of interest and can be used to add some 'color' to your AARs. smile2

Like the solid color background on the cities. If you are ever in my part of the world, a meal and tasty adult beverage of your choice! thumbsup

Mark, you've already rewarded me handsomely for my work on the maps and many thanks again for the gift. That being said, I'd gladly stop by if I am ever in your area and visit, and you are invited to do the same if you happen by my neck of the woods.

Wolfstriked, to your point again about the historical reference points, I could try them in a different color. Orange perhaps.

Lou, thank you very much again for your hard work. Like the frontlines added, aswell, always entered them manually myself. Like the new version very much, Sir, with the solid town background. Thanks for making this available and for letting the community participate!

Cheers, Kaische

Lou;

I'm all for front lines. That said, It may be difficult to implement in periods where the front lines advance or fall back quickly in a short time. Might be useful to put text on the line stating the date or even multiple lines at different dates in a given year.

Just my thoughts. Either way, I consider your maps of paramount value to the WOFF experience Sir!
