Aw, that sucks. Only thing I could recommend trying, which you might have already done, is updating your BIOS. Could be a memory incompatibility or a voltage issue that an update might fix.

I don't like Steam.
So far I have only purchased one game from them and every time I want to play it, I need to run that Steam program to play it.
I paid for it fair and square and in full.
I should be able to have free copy of it standalone on my PC with full user's license without needing to connect to Steam to play it.
I even went as far as unplugging the modem and yes, when you have no internet connection, the game will not run because the Steam program can't connect to the internet.
Why does it need to connect to the internet to run a game that I have paid in full fair and square?
It makes me suspicious that it wants to spy on me and mine information from my PC and from my hard drive and send it to Steam which will then pass it on to Big Brother.
That is why I turned all the crap connected to Microsoft Auto Update completely off on my computer and that is also why I no longer use Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player for about 6 years now.
Windows Media Player would never play a file that is free standing in your hard drive without connecting to the internet first.
There is not one program made by Microsoft or made by another company like Google or Adobe, etc etc on my computer that will auto update itself and that also includes my Anti-Virus programs.
I decide when it connects to the internet to download the latest version, patches, definition, etc.
If anything tries to get on the internet without my pre-authorization besides normal internet browsing with Google Chrome, I will get a warning and it will be blocked.

Let me get you a tin foil hat... Haha, indeed. Imagine living with such paranoia. Should probably cancel the internet and throw away the computer to be safe.

I have already removed the game and the Steam application weeks ago.
It will not attempt to spy on my computer again.
I will never buy another game from Steam again.
If it's not on a physical CD, I will not buy any game, I don't care how popular or great or highly rated the game is. My copy of Skyrim is a physical dvd. Still requires Steam to be installed.

At least you'll be saving a lot of money now as you won't need to upgrade your PC ever again for games you are no longer buying! Physical media is too easily pirated, and it costs money to create and distribute, so it's been abandoned for PC games. If you don't like it...well, there is literally nothing you can do about it unless you can afford to become EA's single largest shareholder and demand they change direction. Then you have to repeat for every other publisher. Otherwise, this is the new normal. The Jedi Master
