Bring back smell-o-vision and 3D!

Some of these I didn't even know!

I still remember watching Earthquake in Sensurround.

It was an amazing experience!

The last one is interesting.

Weather effects!!

As long as they don't use it in x-rated films!

The section on concessions was funny and it had the same lame complaining that you see often.

Don't like the high price of concessions? Eat and drink before or after the movie. This isn't rocket science.

I totally remember Earthquake in Sensurround too. I thought it was pretty neat. After the movie as the audience was shuffling out, they rumbled the theatre again as a little joke. It freaked a lot of people out for a couple seconds until everyone realized what it was.

And I usually don't. About half the time I get a drink, that's it. Never buy candy or anything else, once in a blue galaxy buy a small popcorn.

I bring my own bottled water.

I am not paying $5 for a bottle of water.

I wear a stillsuit. In the deep theater seats a properly configured stillsuit can sustain someone for weeks, or at least through ads, previews, and a Peter Jackson film.

Or just smuggle stuff in. It doesn't take a genius to get a bag of skittles past theatre "security"

Or buy pizza, the nice ones have restaurants built in. If you're going to the movies you're already planning to spend a bunch for a social activity.

I have seen people smuggle in entire boxes of Fried Chicken or Lasagna Dinners.

Women can carry a big tote bag and the theater staff don't inspect them.

I have also seen people enter the movie theater with full backpacks on their back. You don't know what's in those backpacks. An entire restaurant menu?

Gremlins.

Just don't spill your drink on them or feed them any of those concessions after midnight.

The theatres I used to prefer to frequent,
back when I went to movies, all served west
coast health food, sandwiches, whole grain
cookies, and various varieties of tea, coffee
and cocoa.

Yep. Been doing that with the kids for over ten years. Not a full three course dinner, just some chips and chocolate and then we buy drinks and sometimes a mega popcorn.

Same here, the theater I always go to is behind a large mall. In the mall is a "5 below" Store, everything is $5 or less. Of course they sell all the boxes of candy so when I bring the boys I go there first or the candy. I always buy popcorn and a drink so I'm surely not ripping them off at all.

When did theaters stop having intermissions?

When films stopped being over 2 hours on average?

I've been going to see movies since the mid 70s and I've NEVER had an intermission. I've seen a lot of movies.

LOL Try the early to mid 1970's. The most recent film I have on dvd that has an intermission is "Tora, Tora, Tora" which came out in 1970.

When I was a kid in the 70's movies like the Fox and the Hound had intermissions.

I can make a 3 hour movie, but my GF takes frequent bathroom breaks...

That might have been a regional theater thing, because Fox and the Hound was only 83 mins! If they put them in every 40 mins there would've been two breaks when I saw Star Wars, Close Encounters, Superman, Star Trek: TMP, and many other films I saw then...and there were zero.

Also, maybe they did it so the little kids could take a pee break.

I wish they'd bring them back (for 2 hour and longer films); I don't think I've ever been to a movie where I didn't need to pee half way through.
