I have been buying a few of the older sims from GoG and have now decided to give their flagship game The Witcher 3 a go, preordered it.
From the recomended specs an 8 core processor is recomended. I notice the AMD FX-9370 has a speed of 4.4 Gig non turbo. To me this looks like the equivelent a overclocked intel chip, but the benchmarks do not show this. If I upgrade from my present 2500K sandy bridge at least I do not want to go backwards with WOFF.
Would an AMD FX-9370 running at 4.4 GiG run WOFF Well?
Any help will be appreciated.

According to this chart, your 2500K is still stronger than the FX-9370 for games: Game CPU chart
CPU = i9 11900K GPU = RTX 3080 Ti Monitor = ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 2160p G-sync

I am running WOFF on a Phenom X4 965 BE o/c to 3.8 Ghz. But of course it seems that more cores will not help as WOFF only really uses one. I use process lasso to move WOFF to cores 2-3 (actually 3 and 4) and put TrackIr in 0-1 (actually 1 and 2). This seems to work well. I don't play any other games.

As you have the k revision of the 2500k, do you overclock it at all? The AMD processor that you link to will be no better In woff than a stock i5 2500k,maybe even slightly worse due to it's single threaded performance.
If I was you, I would either buy a h60i/h80i watercooler for cpu and overclock your current chip to 4.5-5ghz,this would decimate your AMD chip for gaming and is easy to do on sandy bridge and would cost somewhere in the region of about £60, or see if you can find a i7 2600k cheap somewhere, buy that and overclock it.
This would also be a cheaper option as you would not have to buy a new motherboard either.
AM3+ doesn't even support pcie 3.0 so you would be buying a new chip that's not even future proof.
Sadly, even after the last 5 or 6 years, Intel chips still destroy AMD CPU's for gaming, the only thing AMD currently have in their favour is pricing, although saying that, in the UK at least, the FX9370 is around the same price as a i5 4670k and I know which one I would buy in a heartbeat......... It's not AMD.
Good luck with whatever you decide though!

Intel to me means Windoze and wintel and I don't want to give money to Bill Gates (so I don't). I don't care if Intel is faster (and pricier) I have always stuck to AMD for years now, going back to pre-Pentium days. Maybe because I like to support the underdog, especially if I can get the same speed for a lower price. Possibly this is why I use amd video rather than nvidia. A bit of competition is a good thing.

The point is you CANNOT get the same speed for a lower price. Just because an AMD chip has a clockspeed of 4.4ghz compared to say an Intel at at 3.5ghz,the Intel is still way quicker at gaming. It's a fact.
If AMD made the best gaming chips, I would probably own one, but the reality is, they haven't made a decent architecture gaming chip for years. Their htpc chips are excellent though.
As you can see by my sig, I own two AMD gfx cards as they are in my opinion the best bang for buck cards on the market at the moment. But conversely, I don't hate nvidia.
As for the whole windoze / wintel thing, I'm happy for you that you have such incredible moral standards, I guess you must only game on Linux then?, but I like playing my hobby at the best settings/fps/image quality as I can afford....... I don't cry myself to sleep at night that a company with billions like AMD who are selling millions of chips inside the ps4 and xbox one can't find a way in the last ten years to make a competitive gaming cpu.

The fact that I don't pay money to Bill Gates doesn't mean I don't use Windoze. I have been using their software since Dos 3.1 through all versions of Windoze (except ME). I also use M$ Office etc.

After purchasing WOFF, I was unable to achieve smooth gameplay with my AMD quad core running at stock speed of 3.8 with an ATI 7870. I switched to an Intel I7-4770k running at stock 3.5, kept the ATI 7870, and have to say the improvement in performance is amazing. The same goes for nearly all of my flight sims & games. I bought only AMD CPUs for the last 15 years, but jumped ship for a reason. I agree with 4LOM that Intel makes MUCH better gaming chips. I still like AMD's GPUs, though.

I'm pretty sure you can get PCIe3.0 Motherboards for AM3 chips. LINK Though reading about it ther eis no real reason to bother with PCIE3.0 over PCEI 2.0

Just over overclocked my 965 from 3.8 Ghz to 4.2 (stock is 3.4). Seems to be stable at that.

I go with AMD due to cost. As Intel chips are more expensive and so are the Motherboards then I have to go for AMD. Though my first PCs where always Intel. If I come into any money then I'll probably go for Intel next time..but stick with AMD graphics cards.

The cpu is running at 53°C at the moment. I have a CoolerMaster Vortex Plus which does a good job and is quite quiet. Daytime temp is about 23°C today. We get a couple of nights where it freezes but that is very rare. Cpu temp now at 50. Not much going on except a backup.

I woke up one cold winter morning to find my fire out. The old shack was about 10C, it was -32C outside. After stoking a fire and turning on some electic heat I later started my computer and flew some WOFF. GPU stayed below 18C. That is the most extreme case of room temp effecting computer temps that I've experienced.
My mistake, that was the GPU temps I was looking at.

CPU temp is now 43°C, GPU is 38°C and the sun is shining outside Yesterday I received a CoolerMaster Notepal CMC3 laptop stand and cooler. Very nice and so quiet I thought it wasn't working! My laptop halts occasionally and I thought it may be overheating a bit. It shouldn't really as it runs on an SSD. (I don't attempt to run WOFF on the laptop!)
