I mean for instance, they say that there are this many stories out: A Game of Thrones (1996) A Clash of Kings (1998) A Storm of Swords (2000) A Feast for Crows (2005) A Dance with Dragons (2011)
And that two more novels are due: The Winds of Winter (forthcoming) A Dream of Spring (forthcoming)
Is this the way of it? More or less?
The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

Maybe (hopefully) GRRM did like Robert Jordan and has someone primed and up to speed on his notes & vision who will finish the series if R'hllor or The Seven come for him before he finishes.

The two producers of the HBO series knows how it ends. I know a couple of other people have been told it (like his assistant and editor, IIRC). One of the risks is that the TV series will get ahead of the books Entertainment magazine* wrote that the producers know where the show is going and will no longer be tied to the books - so expect a divergent season 5 and even more in seasons 6 & 7. Can't say I blame them as the last Thrones book was all over the map. * Entertainment magazine is a US weekly that reviews what's in the movies/on TV/books/music, etc. The mag has a penchant for breathlessly cheer-leading every damn thing; for example a show like Glee is put on the same level as Breaking Bad. I guess they care more about access than critical honesty.

Will GRRM live long enough to finish the series? I'd rather have his version of events in the books than the cheaper and tackier TV series If I could choose, I would rather have his next novel(s), but I don't find the TV series so bad. I like the series as companion pieces. On the other hand, your view is completely understandable.

Actually, the showrunners have said they will arrive at the same place as GRRM plans, but they might deviate some along the way (just like they have done so far, like dropping locations because it would be too expensive with so many of them). Umm...after watching S5 E1 I stand by my comment.

They can only cram in so much into the TV series, so they have to omit some things to keep the story going. Mance dying has about zero impact on the main story line. His role late can easily be handled by anybody.

He'll definitely die before finishing it. I'm pretty much expecting to see it every day when I read the news.
4 years since the last one, and he averages 2-5 years per book... I'd say he gets one new book out, and carks it, or has to quit writing before the last one.
I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.
