Been playing with my new graphics card and newish monitor trying to get WOFF to look as good as possible.
Not so much (directly) settings on the card but color, contrast, brightness settings etc, etc.
Downloaded a boat load of pics and programs to assist in the above and, while looking better, I still wondered.

Anyway did some more checking and there are websites where you enter you monitor brand and it gives you a list of ICC profiles made by folks worldwide with their fancy calibration equipment for good looking color.
Just trying my first WOFF flight with one of two I donwloaded and WOW - huge improvement - clearly I was a hack amateur trying to do it myself.
If you have some spare moments look around and try some. You may like what you see.

Hehe. Sorry sir.
I do not recall the exact addy's. TBH I did not expect such dramatic results.
Just google your monitor brand and the words ICC and color profile and they should pop up. Look for the site(s) that allow you to search by your monitor brand and model.

And as a +1 to my OP I guess Pol was right after all.
I am seeing a lot more "special (damage) effects" on enemy aircraft with the correct brightness, color, gamma, and contrast settings.
Flying back now after scoring two kills on a DOP with my new British HA enabled 56 Squadron campaign.
Whoop! WOFF looks more awesome then ever. I actually circled the crash site of my flamer enjoying the "new effects."

Yes, color makes a HUGE difference in games. I have a standard LCD at work and when I see the same screenshots that I took at home with my IPS display, there is no comparison. They all look washed out at work.

I used to use this link for ICC profiles, but it's better to enter the values yourself manually in the monitor's color, brightness and contrast controls.

Thanks OldHat.

EDIT: Yes indeed that was one of the two sites that had a lot of stuff and also where I got my ICC profiles.

Oh...wow.

There were a handful of minor graphic nits I had, primarily with the sun and clouds, that I figured were just a result of using an older game engine and not worth bringing up. I made a few minor adjustments to the colors and gamma using the Win7 calibration tool, and it made alot of difference.

Indeed.
The clouds get a huge facelift with the right settings. 30 days ago they, generally, we're kind of just a white mass in bright light conditions. With the correct settings they look more "3D" as the details of them are more noticeable.

Which brings up one of the issues I had in trying to do my own settings - WOFF itself.
Not that it's WOFF's fault but when you fly in all weather conditions and times of day the "light level" is always different and I was finding (or so I told my OCD self) that what was looking good in the dim light didn't always look the best in the bright sunshine and vice versa. Hopefully these downloaded profiles, which look spectacular so far, will take care of that issue for me.
