I have not fully tested this technique and you can loose your HAs which will require a reinstall of WOFF the latest patch if you make a mistake (not the entire game, thankfully).... you have been warned.

I have found a way to remove HAs from your current campaign then bring them back for another or even same campaign.

Step-by-Step

BACKUP ANY FILES THAT YOU WILL CHANGE OR YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR HAs (DO NOT MISS THIS STEP) - I was stupid enough to skip this step BTW.

1. Go to the location where the aces text file is stored. I will use Germany for this example, but it applies to any nation.

2. Open the German aces text file with notepad.

3. Find the Ace in the file

4. Go to his Date of Death

5. Change it to an earlier date

Save and close the file.

To reverse the changes: I couldn't simply just change the date back and save the file again. I had to delete the changed file and replace with my backup copy for him to appear again.

EDIT: Another option is to make a copy of the changed file and rename it to something like "HA file for 25 RFC NOV 1917.txt" . So, when you want to replay that campaign again, you change that file's name back to the aces text file.

I made a JSGME version of it for me to keep it simple to use.

In the video I demonstrate how I can have two different careers - one with Mannock dead and one where he's alive. I use my keyboard and mouse to kill him and bring him back to life....laser

That's really cool, so for the 0 HA mod I can just change the death date for the top 4 aces for each nation and that should do it, right?

Yes, once you change the date of death, they will no longer appear in the game. But you won't be able to reuse the same text file to bring them back. So best to make a copy before you do any changes.

Here are my current Day-by-Day careers...

While playing my career pilot, 2 of our squad historical aces got killed on the last mission I played. So, I removed them from my squad as I described above. Cool, they were gone.

But then I started thinking about what will happen.... Do they get replaced? Can I bring them back in the same campaign?

Well, the answer is yes to both questions.

Now that is a cool trick WOFF allows me to adjust on my own.

Pics in the spoiler.

Click to reveal..

Check the campaign date at the top of each pic.

Here is the roster of test pilot #1

I remove all the aces

Then I advance by one day. They all get replaced immediately by non-HAs.

Here is the roster of test pilot #2

I decided to remove only 2 aces this time: Hans Joachim Wolff and Hans-Karl von Linsingen.

Again, they immediately get replaced the next day.

Now I bring all the aces back to each of their squads (notice campaign dates are after they were removed)

EDIT: Now, if this process of editing text files can be made into an executable, then maybe this could be an easy to use MOD.

FANTASTIC information, thank you very much smile This is exactly what I was looking for and is a great solution for the problem I was just asking about. Definitely something I will be using in my next campaign!

Is it possible to change other parameters for aces this way? E.g. if instead of making the HA die after that mission, could I theoretically rename him and reset his stats by hand? Might it also be possible to get the game to track HA's actual campaign kills that way?

I got ninety-nine problems, but my pitch ain't one...

Yes, you can edit the text file and change any ace's name, date of enlistment and date of death. Tracking HA's can't be done by us.
