Ok, so I obviously don't have any screens yet but GTA V for the PC comes out tomorrow and, since I'm stuck in the California desert for at least the next week, I'm relying on you guys.

So, post em when you got em. Help me live vicariously through you.

Ah good idea! Think we'd see quite a few separate threads on this one. The director feature will certainly help create some amazing shots.

That looks most impressive. I'm still on the fence though. Never was a big fan of the actual GTA gameplay, although I very much enjoyed the story/characters in GTA IV and the fantastic open world.

If you enjoyed GTA IV, you will love this game. Story and characters are way more fleshed out, much richer story and the world is beyond beautiful, Rockstar's art style is superb.

By the way, having GTA 5 PC play your own music (instead of in-game radio stations) is supposed to be this easy:

Quote:
First off, you need to find the Rockstar folder under Documents. Then click on its subfile GTA V, then User Music. This is the folder that dictates what songs you can add. So simply find your tunes and copy/paste them into this folder.

From there, you need to boot the game up, go into settings>audio then set Self Radio Mode to either radio, sequential or random. Whatever suits your fancy. Then you must scan for music by selecting either Quick Scan or Full Scan below. Perhaps do both just to be safe as it's a very quick process.

And voila! Your music should be blasting out whatever automobile you happened to steal. Grand indeed.

Can't wait to set this up tonight as I am not a fan of the in-game radio stations.

Probably the only time ever that a video of a man running makes me want to buy a game...

Really dont have time for it though and 60 euros is pretty expensive.

Nice! What kind of (if any) graphics features did you need to scale to get smooth play in triple screen?

Gonna play tonight when off work. Already have it on 360 and XBO, but really wanted it for the Mods that are sure to be popping up soon, and to play it FPS style with Mouse/KB.

That said, who's up for some MP? Gotta get all tactical up in here biggrin

I never played the PS4 version long enough to get back into the sub in fps mode which I imagine would look and feel pretty darn cool. Had the 360 version and traded it and then did the same for PS4. Love the game engine and world but hate the characters. Missions are a lot of fun and just hate depravity celebrated in these characters. I know they say the point is that these games are a satire but that still doesn't make it enjoyable to play people like this. I'd be curious to see what mods come about.

Played a bit last night and did a few missions. I spent a decent amount of time messing with the graphics settings…MSAA is a framerate killer for sure. I will post some screens tonight if I get a chance to fire it up.

Another killer is Grass Detail. Turn that down to High. Ultra will kill the framerate on even a top-end SLI system. I reached the countryside with it on Ultra and it felt like I was moving through syrup, as my framerate just started to tank. Very High is better but still has drops for me.

In the intro / city it's not super noticeable due to the lack of foliage.

The game does look amazing. I never really got into the previous GTA titles, although I have GTA IV in my Steam collection. I think a big part of that is that I greatly prefer first person vs third person perspective. I Wonder how well my 3 year old gaming laptop would cope with it.

I have a fairly mid-range system (i5-2500k @ 4 GHz, GTX 760, 8 Gig RAM, Win7 64 bit) and can run the game at 1920x1080 with a mix of normal and high/very high settings at ~60 FPS.

BTW the game looks even more incredible in motion.

You can play V in first person view.

What are your computer specs? From what I've read, people with older, low end systems are reporting surprisingly good performance.

Minimum:

OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz

First Person is actually really fun on PC too. Rockstar didn't just shove a camera in the characters head and call it a day; the entire game is playable/optomized for a first person persepctive (starting with the XBO/PS4 versions release), and it's a Peanut butter and chocolate combo when you mix that with KB/Mouse.

For perspective, I dabbled with FP on the console version, but with PC any time I go into a gun-fight I go to FP. From there, if you didn't know it was GTA, you'd think it's your standard shooter; run around with guns, right click to raise and site in, and left to shoot smile

Notably, you can completely enable or disable the "lock on then shoot" mechanic found in previous entrants in the series. A welcome option, as it really dragged down the shooting action. GTA was always about driving, but shooting has finally caught up.

That said, I switch to Third person when I'm driving, as I generally prefer TP when I'm using a controller with ground vehicles (although you can drive/fly in FP if you so wish)

When I first started the other day I did foot in FPS and car in 3rd person but more and more I find that I just enjoy the whole thing in FPS mode. If you go into settings and enable "independent cameras" you can actually make the game force a switch FPS to 3rd person depending on what mode you are in, foot, car, boat, plane etc. Each mode has it's own camera and the game remembers which camera you left on that mode. SO it auto switches when you enter/leave.

Game works decent on my almost 5 years old laptop (Acer Aspire 7750G with stock 4GB RAM extended to 8GB, still holding off to buy that new rig). Huge leap compared to GTAIV port that sucked real bad. I love the 1st person perspective. Especially while riding a motorbike or flying a plane. Real game changer compared to XBOX360/PS3 version. I have XB360 version which I only completed at about 50%, but this one I will finish for sure. R* took their time with the PC version and it paid off.

By the way, the music is as easy to customize as I posted earlier. I know SimHQ has a lot of music aficionados so it really adds to the enjoyment when you choose Self Radio in a vehicle. Besides, if I'm going to listen to rap in this game it's going to have to be classics like "Hypnotized" and "Gin and Juice."

Can you play and use most things from the start or do you have to win points first to unlock items?

Do the garages work properly now? I remember when I played it most back on 360 it would never save the vehicle you put in it. Also how do you make your own radio station?

I hated the music selection they put in the game minus a few of the country tracks and some of the rock ones. Vice City's selection was better.

Geez... you almost completed the SP game? I've only managed about 2 hours of it (and a whole bunch of GTAO). I remember when the 360 came out. It is like that whole week is a blur except for GTA smile I have no doubt my work performance sucked that week. Props to anyone playing through it for the first time. It was quite a ride!

Yes. Yes yes yes. I prefer to play in select groups, like SimHQ, versus random people. If someone creates a SimHQ crew I'll join it, then those interested can join a crew only session. Unfortunately though I still won't be home for a couple weeks...

Finally completed it. One of the ending missions, which is fairly lengthy, crashed right at the end so I had to do it all over again.

I just pulled the trigger. It looks too good not to. 59Gb will take 1 Day and 11 hours to download according to Steam. At times like this I wish I lived closer to the city where I could get fast internet at a decent price. Oh well. It's going to be a long 36 hours!

Using FRAPS with no issues. Except that I can't open it before I start the game or it'll crash. Basically can't have any overlay / recording software running before the game is starting.

Also, photos taken with the in-game camera when saved, is uploaded to the "Gallery" tab in the pause menu. From there you can upload individual images to Social Club for viewing / downloading, if I remember correctly.

Anyone having problem with jets ? i just stole my first (didnt even start campaign, only have frank) i was just spending 3 hiours opening the map, i hate fog of war, i found the military base and stole the jet easily, well i got shot once but the plane wasnt all damaged, so i quick saved, then i restarted (cheating this will respawn whatever veicles in mint condition) and the jet keeps wobling around worse then il2.

I haven't flown the jets yet, but in the missions you get a chance to attend flight school, maybe that helps make the planes more controllable?

Messed around with the editor, lots of potential there. I whipped this up in around 10 minutes, nothing special but I had to do a trial run. It's my GTAO character, the ski mask has some clipping issues in the editor apparently, however it just looks like the mouth area is torn open which looks pretty cool.

That's normal, Franklin's ability to fly planes is very low. You can see your character stats when you're switching characters. When you fly more or attend a flight school (it will open after Trevor's few missions) your flying stats increase and flying will become less wobbly.

@Sethos - nice vid, I tried the director mode briefly but was surprised it didn't include first person view. Or is there a way to enable it?

From my experiments with director mode, if you record the gameplay in first person then you get the first person camera in the director (and no other cameras), if you record in 3rd person you get all the 3rd person cameras available but no first person, unless I missed some option.

Not sure why first person camera is treated separate like that, hopefully that's something they can improve in the future.

Note that even for characters with a full flying ability bar, planes (and helicopters even more so) will have that random wobble. Been that way since the PS3/360 launch I'm afraid. In fact, my first thought when playing it on those platforms: "I can't wait till this is out on PC and someone mods that out"

Might as well jump with a few screen grabs. This game is the most amazing game, so much to do and see. I think one could spend weeks just trying to see everything. The detail and the way people move and react to you. This is the most alive virtual world I have ever been in, and I thought Skyrim was alive but it looks vacant compared to this. Yes, of course I road the Ferris Wheel and the Roller Coaster and will again, who could resist, it was amazing.

The good life... in GTAV...

Just got my first apartment, garage, and bought a few cars for it...

OH... then I go out for a ride, avoiding the police, when blade, who is being chased by the police, jumps into my car...dragging me into it... so I spend 15 mins trying to lose the cops, and destroying my new car...

Then Aggressor and I have a little 1 on 1 race...

Yep its good fun. Only one problem though. The armoured and (almost) bullet proof cars are way to overpowered and becoming the norm to bust through a lot of missions. A favourite of online griefers. They should change that.

One of the issues there, is that loading up a car with armor doesn't seem to have a negative; ie increased weight and decreased performance. A car that armored should be either less maneuverable, or require lots of expensive mods to maintain it's original performance despite the additional armor, or lots of mods and no armor to increase performance.

And @ Magnum: I want a rematch!

Oh no, the game is rampant with cheaters. Rockstar made the brilliant decision to make everything local as well, meaning a piece of software like Cheat Engine works. You can modify health, experience, ammunition etc. while the game is running and the server just accepts it.

Me and my friends stick to private lobbies for now.

Yea, open online is full of cheaters. I've only been playing on closed crew sessions and cooping. Never cared much for the PvP in game anyways.

How is it that there's no cheat protection?

I'm fine with single player cheats but how there's not an integrity check for online play is beyond me, especially knowing trainers existed for the previous titles.

That, and console mentality: less cheat protection required as it's a lot harder to modify code on consoles, so this is the first time these issues have popped up.

Another massive issue, is that GTAO and the SP game seem to have very little in the way of a "divider" between them; ie it's hard to mod the SP game (even with "white hat" mods like the expanded FOV mod going around), without that also carrying over to Online.

That means that cracking down on cheating will likely mean cracking down on mods. And that will see the PC community reach for their pitchforks and torches, or at least having a severe impact on long term sales.

Plus, with so much of the recent focus being on heists, (and by extension, co-op play), the outcry around PvP cheating is likely somewhat muted.

Well this is ridiculous then, they said they would not suport mods to prevent unfair balance online, and let cheat be rampant ?

Thanks sethos, do you think/feel the resolution lowered in the last patch ? i kinda feel like they removed the high textures for performance or maybe a bug made it so the high texture doesnt load, becouse i remember the decals on the garbage cans being sharper and more defined.

But your screen looks like mine.

Bit of fine detail was lost when it get squashed from 1440p to 720p here on the forum. I honestly don't think the textures look bad at all, many of them look excellent, even compared to much denser games. With a world this size and so many objects requiring textures, I'm impressed with what that achieved. Granted, you do see the odd "blurry" texture tucked away in some alley.

I didn't notice any difference between the patches, to be honest.

after playing it on 360, then One, and now PC... it's a great game, but getting bored with it...

Finally died for the first time online... the angel came:

I spend most of my time at the strip club, waiting for friends to come online and invite me for a mission or two:

If anyone wants to add me I'd appreciate it. I love the idea of heists but trying to get a random group of pubbers to work together and actually complete one is just ridiculous. On Steam I am Roe_31stMEU and in GTA V I am Spyder1331.

Yes Magnum, all the racing records were set by people running the trainer where they basically can fly through all the checkpoints at the speed of a jet but with perfect maneuverability. They are impossible to get even half as fast unless you are cheating somehow.

Had some fun with cops in my chopper. There's no movie-like takes cause I played in first person mode which doesn't allow you to alter the camera in editor. Nevertheless FPS view is awesome!

Watch using mods with GTA V. R* has been banning folks left, right and center for mods. In fact modding is against the EULA.

They said it was not their intention to ban single player mods, only those that affect online, the problem is most mods use dll injector and by the way online works, it can be used there as well for exploits.

Cruisin'. It's funny, the badge reads V10 Supercharged but if you open the bonnet it's 'only' a V8.

One for the flight simmers, can the rivet counters still whine if it's a fictional plane? wink
