Even if he's right, it's some quantum effects. You can't just replace our renderer with some other dll. This is stupid, frankly speaking.

And note, LockOn logs (it should) that it can't load that dll, and uses the default one (surprise, it is DXRenderer.dll).

A DirectX 8.1 COMPATIBLE card (like the Ti.4xxx series) can use ALL of the DirectX 8.1 functions.
Actually the Ti4xxx's are not DX8.1 compliant. They are straight DX8.0 cards. That was one of ATi's selling points with the Radeon 8500 - their card *was* 8.1 compliant and nV's GF4's were not. In the end it made little difference...
GF4 Ti4xxx are DX8.1 compatible. They do not support PS1.4(only PS 1.3) which ATIs DX8.1 cards do but they are still DX8.1 cards.

Can anyone provide concrete evidence that changing the config to refer to the ATI/nVidia dll will increase fps ??

I'm seeing various claims but no concrete scientifically sound reports to back this claim.

How do you copy your videodriver into the lomac root?

I get much better results with the default setup than when I change to nv4_disp.dll. Nice try -- but definitely a step in the wrong direction. Btw, I have a GF4 Ti4400 video card.

Well I tried the change mentioned in the original post and it has helped here.

I was getting the BSOD on a fairly regular basis. It said that nv4_disp.dll had caused a fatal error.

I switched the nv4_disp.dll into the cfg and I haven't gotten a BSOD since. Frames are much smoother now, but there is still some stuttering. I don't know if frame rate has increased.
