Thanks mdwa!!! The graphics of F/A-18 may not be up to the standards of DCS or BMS, but they are certainly more than fine given the immersion that the sim allows. I had to laugh looking at the CAS screenshots, and comparing them with the multi page thread on the DCS forum regarding Visibility of Ground Objects. This isn't a DCS bashing post, just my experiences in DCS vs. F/A-18: I never had problems finding ground targets in F/A-18 visually (and we won't even talk about the presence of AG-Radar) but I have ALWAYS been frustrated with CAS in DCS even with LABELS on as vehicles fade into the terrain. There is a reason that the training missions have vehicles sitting on Airbase Runways for contrast!! Granted I do not have that many hours in DCS, and my eye isn't "trained", but I really wanted to LOVE the A-10A and -C for mud moving and was always frustrated. Had F/A-18 working fine in Win7, but now the AA Slowdown has reared its ugly head again. Maybe a driver update along the way. Will have to try DXTweaker again..or move the Cougar back to he XP machine

Hi Recluse, RE the AA slowdown, I pinpointed it to Nvidia driver version on my Win7 system. There were certain driver versions that caused the AA slowdown. Check out these posts starting from here: Nvidia Driver Versions AA Slowdown Rolling back the drivers is easy. And I occasionally fly DCS and BMS with no problems. I know what you mean regarding CAS in DCS, although I don't fly the A-10 but rather Su-25T. I remember getting frustrated rolling in on some gun runs on vehicles (BRDMs etc) and before I could see them they were shooting up and hitting me... Lately in F-18 I've found it useful using the FLIR marker on either the SA or HSI page to slew the FLIR onto a known point eg waypoint and pick up targets from that. ie in the mission briefing I place an extra waypoint over a known SAM sight location, then in the mission I can see that waypoint on either my SA or HSI then with the display FLIR toggled on that display I can quickly slew the FLIR over the waypoint and then start zooming in and picking up individual TELs, vehicles etc. and start handing these off to my wingman (Wingman attack my target radio command) to get my wingman to destroy specific targets. I find this useful in SEAD with the wingman loaded up with mavericks, since the AI on their own suck so much at SEAD with HARMs... The graphics in F-18 don't bother me too much, the jaggies used to but since using FXAA antialiasing on - that gets rid of the jaggies and looks a lot more pleasant without framerate hits and without destroying the HUD text. I do wonder (or daydream) though what F-18 would look like if the source code had been made available and if as much effort went into modding it as has happened with Falcon 4 and BMS 4.33.........

Yes we desperately need a modern hardcore Rhinomsim with CV ops.

Hi tirta, I don't get any stutters or slowdown that I can notice anyway - seems to run fine. I don't use dxtweaker because I can't stand the crabbing and sliding sideways... The nvidia settings was just what worked for me at the time, and the most important that the HUD can be readable. Also I change desktop to 1600x900 and run "same as desktop" from TSH settings (again main reason is HUD readability - size). You might try to change how many cores it uses through program affinity - check VFA-41 forum for this: http://vfa-41.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3806Can you post a video of the slowdown/stutters? When do they occur - any particular mode AA, etc? Also remember if you use FRAPS for screens or video it won't show your actual AA/AF settings, I use the TSH screenshot (mapped to alt s for me) or NVIDIA Shadowplay for videos but note that latest Nvidia Experience forces you to create an account, to avoid this I use v2.4.5.57 check here if interested: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic...eed-to-log-in-/Regards, Marto.

After some further testing, I find running fa18 under win98 compatibility without dxtweaker, is much buggier on my system.
I like it better since when I plays training missions, I can hear the instructor voice, however, it crashes more often, usually right in the beginning of the mission or a few seconds after.
And I have just found out that F9 (watch player missile) now do not work. It works if I run fa18 without compatibility option, but under win98, it does not. I have looked the keyboard mapping setting, and it is very odd, under win98, the F9 button is empty (unassigned), even after I assign it, it still won't work. I have tested it again with no compatibility option, and F9 works again.
do you have this problem on your system?
>I don't use dxtweaker because I can't stand the crabbing and sliding sideways... what do you mean by crabbing and sliding? can you elaborate?

No, no problem with f9 that I've ever noticed, only crashes I get are when I enter the Jane's reference, then exit, then I think it crashes. Otherwise all fine. I can check which compat mode I use later today... For crabbing check here: http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4178747/Re:_[Jane's_FA-18]_Stuttering_#Post4178747 http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2724182/Re:_No_Joy_on_no_slow-down_in_#Post2724182 http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2332009/Re:_Aircraft_%22sliding&quo http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2736325/1

No, I just use the F18 screenshot key, it saves the shots to the main f18 folder. I don't use the FRAPS screenshot since it doesn't include the AA and AF settings from NVIDIA panel for some strange reason...
