Here's the result of the first paint bash at the eight part PAW model:

Now only have to change deck number for Enterprise and Hornet.

I had to make a few minor adjustments to the model - widen the flight deck at the front, add a few missing barrels on the gun turrets, and getting the flight deck skin straight was a pain, but it's serviceable.

I need to work out damage models now. Should be fun.

Very, very nice.

I'm jealous.

Those damage models can be a pain, especially listing to one side. On some models I just lowered them to the waterline, deleted most of the hull and had only a few parts sticking up.

FYI, there are some wrecks in SPAW where the sinking ship is 90 degrees to the water, going straight down.

Also, there is a program out there that tilts a model a certain number of degrees fore and aft. I remember using it to make ground aircraft TMODs but it would work for ships too.

And lastly, when you're finished, maybe you, Jel and I could talk about a ship upgrade package for SPAW. We've got some new aircraft and now some much better carriers so it would make sense.

Thanks Ray,

For the damage models, I've got to deal with the fact as you have pointed out, that there are eight parts to the model, and I can't have the tower floating in mid-air undamaged whilst the hull sinks.

So what I had in mind was making only two parts of the model actually targetable mods in tmodXX.dat, the two parts which are either going to be bombed or torpedoed - so that's the lower hull at the waterline and the flight deck. The rest I will mark in their respective tmodXX.dats as non-target mods. We'll see if that works.

I will have to show damage not so much through model changes but by skinning on bomb and torpedo hits to represent gaping holes in either deck or hull, and I will need to mug up on the new "smoke" regime. I can also do damage skins for the tower, though damage there would not be critical.

Which is the utility which "tilts"?

New ships package would be a good idea. I have the Japanese carriers to move on to next. At least the towers tend to be less complicated smile

Check your e-mail, I sent the tilt program.

It will tilt a model in the X,Y or Z axis so you should be able to add a side list to a ship. I wish I had known that BEFORE creating the SPAW models but I didn't discover it until later in the creation process.

Another idea that might work. Use an "empty" 3dz file for the parts of the ship you don't want to see after it's been destroyed.

I used an "empty" damage TMOD on the Ammo ships in SPAW. After destruction there was nothing left except some slowly dissipating smoke.

I have uploaded a 7-zip self-installer file to your folder at the Coders' FTP named "BillsAvengerFiles".
It contains two skin folders, one in normal format and the other in 140 format. The skins were done by Captain Kurt.
I have also included these two pics.
The first is a SPAW screenie of the skin converted to jpg:

The second is a photo I took when I was visiting Bill:

He had made the model, and used his own numbers. When he made it he would have been almost blind as a result of macular degeneration, and he was not a model builder. However, I think that his colours are probably more accurate.

wink Jel

Ok, Jel.

The good news for everyone is that Iron Mike is involved in the skinning of the CAW planes so I'm sure we can get him to add this to the mix.

Jell and Ray,

Consider it done... wave

I'll put it together along with a few other RAN machines. I just need to do a bit of research first, And, finish a few of RFay's new models.

Well, thats all the US carriers, Yorktown, Hornet and Enterprise effectively sorted, bring of the same class.

The Japanese First Carrier Division Akagi, Kaga, are very different to each other, with Akagi being enormous. In the Second Carrier Division Hiryu and Soryu are of a similar class, but mirror images of each other, the tower being on different sides. In the First Fleet Main Force Hosho is a small carrier, and we don't have a PAW model, though we can probably put something together - at least it doesn't have a tower. In the Second Fleet Main Body we don't have a PAW model of Zuiho, though we do have one of her sister ship Shoho which will do the job.

Yeh, there's a bit work there. But the results will be a great deal better than the old flatpacks smile

If you want ready made Jap deck skins, I have some I did a long time ago for an Airfield deck I was working on. I also have lots of carrier models in card which have good detail too.
