I hesitated to bring this up (esp. since no one else has), but feel that I ought to offer prayers and condolences - I sure hope that none of us here have lost loved ones in the tragic crash today, but want to "be here" in case anyone has. We have a wide & caring community here, and if I'm not mistaken, one of our frequent posters is certified on that aircraft type.

I saw a video of the the students crying outside the Joesph Koening Gymnasium, and one of the most heartbroken children reminded my of my own granddaughter. It touched me deeply. This could easily be any of us; it is a small world, and we are all fellow travelers.

Please no technical discussion; there's plenty of that (or attempts at it) all over the place, and we won't know for sure what caused it for quite a while.

My prayers for the families and friends of those we lost, and may the victims rest in peace.

I have little to add but I second your sentiment. There are truly good and caring people on this board.

Well said. We need more compassion and prayer in the world today and less mindless violence.

They are the best you can offer, MudWasp. Haven't we all experienced that helpless feeling? Thanks guys, for adding your comments. And if anyone of our friends here have been affected, we're here to listen, at least.

Not much else to say about these incidents. They have causes and reasons for happening but all that does is allow us the closure of knowing why and/if there is blame to place.

In the end, it does not change the outcome. The loss is never forgotten. My condolences and prayers to all that were effected. RIP

My thoughts and prayers also go out to the loved ones of those lost in this tragedy. So very sad to think of the lives cut short and the countless things these individuals could have accomplished in the years ahead.

It's particularly hard for me to see young lives lost this way! Thanks for the post. I missed the news on this and so was in the dark about the crash. So sad!

HumanDrone, it's always hard to express the right sentiment online about this sort of thing, but you did it. I share in the community's sympathy.

I see they have found the Cockpit Voice Recorder which may tell what happened. Whether that makes it any better for the friends and family of the dead I am not sure. It is a real tragedy and I feel deeply for all concerned.

My thoughts and condolences to the victims and their beloved ones of this horrible, tragical accident. Thank you for this thread and your kind words, all of you. I am very sad.
The destination of the GWI flight is my home base, I was flying the Airbus for 2 years aswell, although 15 years ago and the routeing via the Westalps/ Cote de Azur is a very common one for me.
It is unbelievable and it hurts.

That's a lot of people in 1 go, terrible - no survivors too apparently. I just wish their families find strength to get through it somehow.

I followed the justice officials press conference today in France. It seems the co pilot locked himself inside the cockpit while the pilot had left for a leak and volunteerly programmed the plane to sink and crash in the mountains.
Frightening ! Although it's already sad he took 150 people with him, it's lucky he didn't decide to crash on a town... frown

News reports last night and this morning here in the States were talking about the pilot being locked out of the cockpit. Only speculation at that time if the crash was deliberate by the co-pilot. Confirmed now, I guess.

Yes, Corsaire, very sad he felt that bad that he committed suicide in the first place, but to kill all those others.... If you're depressed, get help. If you don't want help, get a rope or a pistol or some pills. And you're right, at least he put it somewhere it was unlikely anyone on the ground would get hurt. Little enough consolation, though.

SALUTE TO ALL!

I agree with the French Prosecutor "Suicide is when you kill yourself only, murder is when you kill others."

What a horrible tragedy this is. It brings us back to ponder the cause of MH370.

What is wrong with people!!

Every year, there's more air traffic in the world. It's simple mathematics that with increased numbers there will also be an increase in crazy tragedies like this one.

The easiest way to prevent something like this from happening (or at least to make it considerably less likely to succeed) would be to ensure that there are always two people in the cockpit, so that nobody is left alone to lock the others outside.
