When I saw there was no flying in my "DiD Campaign" until 22 March, due to bad weather - what did I do? Believe it or not - "Albatros-Man" started a campaign with No. 46 Sqn, RFC, flying the Sopwith Pup! They just transfered to La Gorgue, and now I am a member of their B-flight! Already the second patrol I had to lead my flight, and I led them into an attack on four DFW C.V bombers on their way to Loos. Dimmock and Barrager shot one down each, and I had another. I could not see, what happened to the fourth two-seater. I always liked the Sopwith Pup a lot, and sitting in this scout and flying over La Gorgue was an amazing adventure, which I will try to continue as long as possible. We'll see how well I can do, when we meet our first Albatros scouts. And I confess, I am brushing the thought aside, that we might run into the Red Baron. Here are some pics - this craft is such a cutie, I had to take photos from all sides.

Olham, Alan Haynes shows a strong resemblance to Edzard Harms not to mention your namesake!! Must be coincidental! Say, is there a possibility the Kaiser is sending agents to join the RFC and learn about their best aircraft first hand??

Wow. Pretty impressive shots and awfully bright reflections - your work or are you testing something? Even the cockpit shots are awesome.
And I always like the British cockpits with all the dials and stuff. Feels like a Cadillac...
Duke, This is stock WOFF, without any Sweetsh*t or anything else; and I did not treat the screenshots at all. I have a good graphic card though, and I let the card do AA and Anisotropic Filtering; and then it also optimises surface texturtes. (It is a HD7870). Olham, Alan Haynes shows a strong resemblance to Edzard Harms not to mention your namesake!! Must be coincidental! Tch - now that you say it, Robert... Well, we are all relatives around the North Sea, and looking back on Judy: all over the world. Say, is there a possibility the Kaiser is sending agents to join the RFC and learn about their best aircraft first hand??
No way with me. I mean, I don't know what the Kaiser's secret service does, and I guess they do quite some spying. But when I fly for Old Blighty, then I am British (we East Frisians are great tea consumers by the way, like the Crumpets). "No Parachute" will supply me with the right morale, the backgrounds, and the personal impressions.

According to the BBC Englishmen are 30% German anyway ...and Vikings and Celtic immigrants and Normans and and and. But it made an interesting "cocktail" IMHO - great humour, and very good pop music! You must admire them for how they control those 30% of their genes! It only shines through in their "my home is my castle" attitude. Well, and that they fancy beer.

According to the BBC Englishmen are 30% German anyway And even the languages have similar similarities! (Lou would shoot me for using this phrasing )

And although Olham lives in Berlin he is a Ostfriesan (sp?) at heart. And that dialect or language (they still argue about this one) is close to English (or the other way round really). This is only with some words although English moved away a lot after 1066 when the Normans invaded with their version of French. At least the Danish/Norwegian invasions of the Vikings got rid of that male/female/neuter distinction which I must say I hated at school when learning (or trying to learn) French and German. English is, after all a Creole language with simplified grammar (although some would say it is now very complicated!) The complications arise because England, having been invaded by all sorts of people, mixed and matched various grammatical rules to the extent that there are more exceptions to the rule than rules - or so it seems. If you want a simple creole language Afrikaans is the best example I know.
ps I am also flying the Pup with RNAS 3 and it is wonderful and looks good with the new mod. I occasionally set the mod 'off' by hitting num lock and 0. Then you can see the difference!

Just got my tank holed in my Pup of 3 RNAS. But landed on our side of the lines. Now 44 hours .... but no victories Is this a record? As usual I never saw the aircraft that shot me up even though I was looking behind with TrackIr ...

Jim, East Friesland lies between Western Friesland (which is Dutch) and Northern Friesland and Denmark. This whole coastal stretch had a similar language ages ago. And that was related with early English. But the original Frisian language has almost vanished - there is only a very small region where they still speak it. The rest is old Frisian mixed a lot with "Plattdeusch" (nether-German). "Plattdeutsch" exists in many regional, different versions. It was only through Martin Luther and his bible transcription, that Hochdeutsch (high German) came into being. It was actually an artificial mix from all versions of low German, but he made it so well that everyone could understand it. (Well, every German could - for foreigners it must be tough...)
I only learned that recently from a little series made by the German 2. TV-program ZDF, with the Australian historian Professor Christopher Clark (yes, the one who wrote "Sleepwalkers...")
Clark made a wonderful, 3-part series, in which he shows us Germans, how Germany and the Germans are. It is often funny, and sometimes disturbing, and occasionally we feel our legs getting pulled, but he does that in a very true, precise way, with many examples, and of course also with some good British-Australian humour. Very well made mirror for the Germans.

I shall have to catch Clark's series, if possible. I must admit, when I saw it was you flying a Pup, I half expected to see the oceans coming across the hills of Pittsburgh as the world tipped off it's axis! But you explained yourself so well! You are full of surprises, good sir. (and excellent photoshops as well...)

Hehehe! (Note: laughter also changed! Mmuahahahahahaaa!!!) Don't panik, HD - a WW1 scout pilot was never of the same importance as Moses; not even the top guns.
