I saw on the CastAR forums that you've made a rudimentary prototype screen for flight simming.
So I assume that you already have a CastAR Gen1 unit in hand... Are you under NDA? or can you give us some indication of your impressions thus far? I'm sure I'm not the only one who's interested in the CastAR, especially as compared to the Rift and Rift-like VR headsets.
Thanks, C_G

Not under NDA. If you go to my youtube channel ( http://www.youtube.com/f15sim) you can see a video I did while checking it out for the first time. The video is NOT a proper evaluation. It's done under very poor conditions. There's currently an issue with tracking if the fiducial is facing the castAR directly - this has been resolved from what I've been told, but they haven't released a firmware update yet. (It's a math error) That is what is causing the jitter in the video. castAR has a lot of potential, but I'm not able to do a hard evaluation on it due to the lack of documentation on the SDK. I'm hoping this will be resolved soon, but until it is, I have other projects to work on. Once I get my head wrapped around it, I'll be adding tracking support to FlightGear for testing. I'm not quite sure how well it will perform with out-the-window views, but from what I've seen so far, it'll make an EXCELLENT alternative to LCD and mechanical based avionics. The castAR could display all the panel avionics on to properly sized & positioned bits of RR material. The folks at T.I. are pretty heads down on ongoing hardware & software dev, so they tend to be really quiet. I'm hoping for docs very soon. g.

So, the glasses project an image to a surface you apply to whatever around you (a simple MDF panes, i.e.).
Is the contrast enough? What are the room lighting prerequisites? I usually play at night with a desk light on.

Thanks, I'm at the last 30 minutes of work and couldn't browse the website too much.

Gene, thanks for the reply. I'm at work so I can't see your video at the moment. I'm on the fence about buying a new gaming monitor (one of the new hi-rez, low-latency G-SYNC monitors such as the Asus PG278Q or the Acer XB270HU) but those are pretty pricey. Since it's really only for simming, I'm thinking I can avoid that outlay if CastAR is commercialized reasonably soon (12 months)- from what I'm hearing, that isn't necessarily a reasonable timeline [I understand that you are not privy to that info). Anyhoo, looking forward to seeing the vid.

Hmmmm. Saw the video. I wasn't planning a closed-in 'pit but it sure seems like they've got a fair bit of work left to do. The good thing is that once it is working, CastAR will be fairly easy to integrate with my setup.
